Bowl Previews and Predictions: BCS Bowl

BCS Bowl

Background:

Ohio State leads the All-Time Series, 1-0-1. They have not met since 1987.

Ohio State: Win Against Michigan

Lousiana State: Win Against Tennessee

Ohio State Advantages:

They tore through the Big Ten, and only lost to Illinois in a close one.

Looking for revenge, as they were destroyed by Florida in the last BCS Championship Game.

They have the #1 Defense in the nation.

LB Laurinaitis leads the team with 5 sacks, 2 INTs, and 103 Tackles.

CB Malcolm Jenkins has 3 INTs.

The offense is lead by 23 TD 12 INT QB Todd Boeckman.

Chris Wells propelled the ground game with 1,463 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Brian Robiskie helped Ohio State with 885 receiving yards and 10 TDs.
They actually have go to guys, which may help them in the long run.

Ohio State Disadvantages:

The Big Ten has been incredibly weak this year, and Ohio State has really no power wins inside the Top 20.

Their defense should be taken with a grain of salt when compared to their schedule.

Louisiana State Advantages:

Played rather well through a grueling SEC schedule. Won against the likes of Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Florida, Auburn, Alabama, and Tennessee.

They play rather well in late game situations, with Les Miles sometimes being an evil genius (credit to OKLuschen for the term).

They employ a 2-QB system, so an injury to a QB won't affect them as much.

They use 4 Running backs, the leader of which is 1,017 yard rusher Jacob Hester.

They also have a deep recieving core also, lead by 641 yarder Brandon LaFell.

Uhm....their team is stacked at all positions?

They have the nations Bronco Nagurski, Glenn Dorsey. He has 6 sacks and 11 1/2 tackles.

Louisiana State Disadvantages:

Weak losses to Kentucky and Arkansas. They could have lost to better teams.

Have had a number of close calls.

Les Miles carrazy play calls may just lead to his demise.

Writer Predictions:

Jason Frost: LSU. This will be a closer game then people expect, yet the talent edge and home field advantage will prove to much for Ohio State as the Vest loses another championship game 31-24.

OKLuschen: LSU. I really wanna go Ohio State here, but I can't deny the Bayou Bengal talent edge. Glenn Dorsey is back in business and this LSU defense is bigger and stronger than any Ohio State has seen all season, not to mention faster, which is the constant Achille's Heel for the Big Ten. I got the Tigers, but in a game closer than last years demolition.

Zorgon: LSU. These teams are so statisticially similar....it's almost possbile to discern. But in the end, Les Miles superior coaching, LSUs superior depth, and their superior schedule will pull through in the end. LSU wins in a nail-biter.

Bottom Line: Ohio State 0, Louisiana State 3

Bowl Previews and Predictions: GMAC Bowl

GMAC Bowl (Pronounced Gee-Mack, not Gee-emm-ay-cee)

Background:
Tulsa leads the all-time series, 1-0. The game was a 45-10 win at home in 1989.

Tulsa: Loss to UCF after 5 game tear through Conference USA
Bowling Green: 4 Game tear through the Mid-American Conference

Tulsa Advantages:
Tulsa has the best offense in the nation yards per game wise.
QB Paul Smith may be a midget, but 42 TDs and 4,753 yards don't lie. And yes, that's more than Colt Brennan, and tied with Graham Harrell.
They lead Oklahoma 7-0 in the first quarter.
They aren't pass-exclusive, like Hawaii. They have Tarrion Adams (1,113 yards, 9 TDs).
They crushed Houston.
There is a distinct possibility that they could use their decent running game against Bowling Greens 107th ranked run defense, not ot mention Paul Smiths speedy legs.

Tulsa Disadvantages:
Conference USA had gone an atrocious 1-4 in bowl games this year.
They haven't beaten a good opponent all season, and even lost to UTEP by a point.
They have shown little adaptibility, losing to UCF twice by virtually the same score.
I'd daresay they have less depth than BGSU, simply because they haven't been as good for as long.
Their defense is ranked 111th.

Bowling Green Advantages:
They've beaten a Big Tenn opponent in Minnesota, and played respectably against Michigan State and Boston College.
Their defense is ranked 78th, and while not spectacular, is much more respectable than Tulsas.
Their QB, Tyler Sheehan, has 3,123 yards and 23 TDs. Not quite Paul Smith numbers, but very good nonetheless.
They are 29th in Pass Defense, with their Safety, P.J. Mahone, having 220 INT return yards, tied for first in the nation.

Bowling Green Disadvantages:
The Mid-American Conference only submitted 3 teams to bowls, and the other two (Ball State and Central Michigan) have lost handily.
Lost a couple crappers at Ohio and Miami of Ohio.
Sheehan relies a lot on Freddie Barnes, so if he goes out, so may Bowling Greens chances of victory.
Almost no running game to speak of, with 2 Running Backs who have about 500 yards a piece.

Writer Predictions:

Zorgon: Tulsa. While both are very similarly styled teams, and played very similar conference schedules, the fact is that Tulsa just played that much better. They had better numbers offensively, only have one bad loss (rather than two, like Bowling Green) and actually have a running game to speak of. Even in a bad conference, 42 TDs don't lie, and Bowling Greens balence just may be their demise. And hey, as I mentioned earlier, Tulsa could open it up a lot on the ground against the atrocious Bowling Green run defense. As for Bowling Green taking advantage of Tulsa's defense, well, they've been facing those defenses all year, and couldn't light it up as good as Tulsa has. Tulsa in a 50 pointish game that ends in the 3rd quarter.

Bottom Line: Tulsa 1, Bowling Green 0

okluschen: Though I'm sure you live and die by the opinions of the fine writers here at AdonalObsessed, every once and awhile we like to flex our influence and invite a celebrity to be a guest writer on our blog. So, seeing as how this is the bowl played in Canada, we thought it would be appropriate to invite the Maple Leaf's most famous native. Unfortunately, Pamela Anderson was busy. So, we decided to book Canada's second favorite, please give it up for the one, the only, Dudley Do-Right!

Dudley: Why thank you. OK, it is an honor indeed. I am an avid reader of this blog, of course. I enjoy especially the many, many articles by my favorite writer, Jack Frost! This may come as a suprise to some of you, but I am a big fan of your American Football and considered the guru of my fantasy CFL league. I love the Toronto Argonauts and admire my signed Ricky Williams jersey, which I keep framed in Horse's stable, every day. Now, without further adieu, the International Bowl...

Zorgon: Background:
The two teams have met once, on Sept. 29, 1989. It was a 31-All tie. They played in an empty lot, but were kicked out by the landlord in the 3rd quarter, so finished the game in an empty parking lot. Needless to say, a lot has changed for these two programs since then.

Dudley:
Streak:
*Do not streak please, it is against Canadian law and a very distasteful habbit.
Ball State is on a two game winning streak
Rutgers lost it's last contest to Louisville

Ball State Eurekas!:
This is the best season these Cardinals have had since, I don't know, probably at least since my live-action movie flopped in '99.
It could quite possibly be the best passing attack in the entire Big MAC conference.
Played well against 3 BCS conference teams this season (Illinois who played in the Rose Bowl, Indiana who played in a bowl, and traditional power Nebraska)

Ball State Tiddlywinks:
Played in the cupcake MAC conference.
Have a poor rush defense, 99th in the nation.
Most impressive win...Navy? Now, if they had played the Mountie Academy, that would have been different. Yes, I love the Mountie Academy Midhorsemen. Come to think of it, I think they've got a game against Notre Dame next season...

Rutgers Eurekas!:
Ray Rice is a top notch running back, first in the Big East in Touchdowns and 3rd in the nation in rushing.
Bad news for the Ball State passing attack, the Rutgers pass defense is ranked second in the country, giving up only 160.58 yards per game in the air.
Greg Schiano can coach with the best of 'em and has the kind of loyalty and pride in Rutgers and Piscattaway, NJ that is compareable to my loyalty to the country, and God save the Queen...still...

Rutgers Tiddlywinks:
A very far drop off from last season's great run.
One of the worst punting teams in all of college football.
Run defense is a liability at times.

Writer's Predictions:
okluschen: Rutgers. Rutgers has the heavy talent edge here. I think the defense matches up well against Ball State. I also like how we always send such great teams to other countries to be our football ambassadors. 49ers, Dolphins, now Ball State.

Dudley Do-Right: Rutgers. Because Scarlet Knights could easily be a metaphor for Mounties. Speaking of symbolism, Ball State is sort of like the lovely Nell Fenwick in this matchup. Sure, you love 'em, but she's defenseless, and tied to the tracks.

Zorgon: Rutgers. While some would argue that the Big East is overrated, noone can argue that the Mid-American conference is overrated, because it's darn near the Sun Belt, and everyone knows it. It's a sheer mircale that Ball State has a winning record, much less in a bowl at all. Losses to Central Michigan, Nebraska, and Miami (of OHIO) do not translate well at all. Looking for power wins? Look no further than Central Michigan, Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, Toledo, Northern Illinois, Western Kentucky, and Navy. Aside from Navy, only Western Kentucky has a winning record (and they played all 1-AA teams and even a 1-AAA opponent). It can be argued that all of their wins came to teams who would be ranked in the triple digits (except Navy). Rutgers? Well, yeah, they completely fell apart, but they are not a stinking pile of trash, just a 15 year old refrigerator that leaks every so often. The ONLY reason Ball State is in this bowl is because of their close proximity to Canada. This is a travesty for everybody. I'm sure Troy would be happy to be in this bowl right now. Rutgers wins 86-0. At halftime, they call the game off. Okay, not really. But it'll be like 45-17.
Oh, I love Ball States logo though. It looks like it was made in the 80s.

Jason Frost: Rutgers. Ball State has a terrible run defence. Rutgers has a terific run offense. Rutgers wins big.

Bottom Line:
Rutgers 4, Ball State 0

Bowl Previews and Predictions: Orange Bowl

Orange Bowl

Background:

The two teams have never met.

Kansas: Loss to Missouri after a tear through the scum of the Big 12

Virginia Tech: 5 Wins, including Florida and Boston College

Kansas Advantages:

They've proven they can handle some of the Big 12s Mid-Major teams.

Their coach is Mark Mangino. He likes Waffles. He is Coach of the Year.

In their only loss, their performance against Missouri was incredibly respectable.

They have no real stars....mostly a combination of everything at every position. Kind of the Opposite of Colt Brennan and his high flying offense.

That being said, Aqib Talib is a great corner (almost best defensive player of the year), and Todd Reesing (QB) has set 20 Kansas school records....but the team is reliant on neither too much.

Kansas Disadvantages:

They have not beaten anyone of significance, except a once 24th ranked Kansas State.

Their actual skill has been questioned. They got into the BCS without going to their conference championship game....essentially penalizing Missouri for doing so. However, it was mostly the Orange Bowls fault. Blame them!

Their schedule strength was....109th. In the nation.

They are a bit reliant on the pass.

Virginia Tech Advantages:

Power wins over Virginia, Boston College, and Clemson.

Their loss to Boston College was really just a fluke.

They have a top notch defense, rated Top-5 in sacks and interceptions in the nation.

They use a 2 Quarterback and Runningback system, so injuries won't affect them as much.

Their special teams have been ace, blocking 2 Field Goals in the ACC championship game against Boston College.

Their Kicker, Jud Dunlevy, has a .875 accuracy rating this season.

Virginia Tech Disadvantages:

They got crushed by LSU, which may siginify that they're high, but not elite just yet.

Anyone who watched the Boston College game knows that they can't play a 2 man rush late in games. The pass rush was almost like watching a game of tag between Bowser, Barney, and the Roadrunner. You know who's going to win.

The announcers will mention the Virginia Tech shootings 2,678 times.

The ACC is 2-5 in bowls this year.

They are without Branden Ore (RB) for the first quarter, and may be without 92-tackle Vince Hall, an All-ACC line backer (Questionable).

Writer Predictions:

Jason Frost: TBA

OKLuschen: TBA

Zorgon: Kansas. What it's really going to come down to is if the cornerback duo of Brandon Flowers and Victor Harris can stop Reesings 32 TD pass game. Even though Kansas Lost, Reesing had an excellent game against Missouri (2 TDs, 2 INTs, he rushed in a TD). And I'm pretty sure he can pull it off against the secondary of Virginia Tech. The Kansas offense will become one-dimentional pretty fast, because with such bad of a schedule and only a decent rushing attack, I'm pretty sure it'll get shut down. On the other side of the ball, Virginia tech will probobly have to rely on it's run, with Kansas stronger corners shutting the Tech pass down. All in all, this will probably be the best bowl game (Yes, better than Ohio State-LSU, and yes, even better than the International and GMAC bowls). This ripsnorter ends 30-27, Kansas.

Bottom Line: Kansas 1, Virginia Tech 0

Bowl Previews and Predictions: Fiesta Bowl

Fiesta Bowl

Background: Oklahoma leads the All-Time series, 2-1. They have not met since 1987.

Streak:
Oklahoma has won two straight, including the last in the Big XII Championsjip Game in San Antonio.
West Virginia is coming off a heart-breaking loss to Pittsburgh.

Oklahoma Advantages:
Sam Bradford could be a legend-in-making in Norman. He's the most efficient QB in the nation and if he doesn't go down against Texas Tech, OU could be squaring off against the Buckeyes in the Championship.
Malcolm Kelly is one of the best wideouts in program history and will be a star on Sundays.
OU has seen better defenses, but this unit is still as solid as ever. Auston English is a beast of a defensive end, and there may have been no bigger All-American snub than Curtis Lofton at linebacker.
The Sooners have one of the biggest defensive lines in the country, led by All-American Duke Robinson and the behemoth himself, Phil Loadholt.

Oklahoma Disadvantages:
Let's be honest, the team itself is perfect, so I'll just talk about possibile distractions.
OU hasn't won a BCS game since the 2003 Rose Bowl against WASSU, lost three straight since then.
Retard defensive tackle DeMarcus Granger (I think he might be related to Danny Granger, but I'm not certain) won't be playing in this game virtue to his shoplifting at a Pheonix area Burlington Coat Factory.
One of the nation's most talented secondaries will be depleted of some of it's key players, as Reggie Smith is injured and Lendy Holmes is academically ineligible.

West Virginia Advantages:
The Mountaineers could, quite possibly, be the fastest team in Division I football.
Owen Schmidt, Pat White, and Steve Slaton (or Schwhiteton as I like to say) make up one of the best, most versatile backfields in the nation.
They have a balanced, fast defense that makes plays all over the field.
Noel Devine and Darius Reynaud could be the best playmakers you've never heard of.

West Virginia Disadvantages:
Frustration in Morgantown, as yet another coach leaves for the Michigan job in less tahn a year's time.
Though I think that Pat White has an under-rated arm, the Mountaineers are certainly a one-dimensional team offensively.
They have crumbled in the big game, not once, but twice this season. Also, looking down the schedule for some impressive wins, and I got what? Rutgers? Cincinnati?
Probably disappointed, thinking they were headed to the C'hip before the Pittsburgh fiasco.

Writer's Predictions:
okluschen: Oklahoma. Gotta go with my boys here. They've got the talent edge and the only coach they're worried about replacing is Kevin Sumlin (a positional coach for those of you who don't know), for cryin' out loud. Would be worried about the secondary if it wasn't WVA. Since it is, I got the Sooners in a preview for next years championship run.

Zorgon: Oklahoma. Look, I'm trying to take off my Sooner coloured glasses here. These are two very good, very equal football programs. Both suffered hard losses to inferior competition (OU lost to Colorado, WVU lost to Pitt) and OK losses to OK competition (OU lost to Texas Tech, WVU lost to South Florida). Both have powerful, intimidating defenses and excellent offenses. But, the fact is, West Virginias coach ran away to Michigan beefore a BCS bowl, which has to be incredibly demoralizing to the team. Bob Stoops, on the other hand....will probobly coach the Sooners until I die, until he gets an offer from the NFL, or gets and offer from Indiana while getting caught in a NCAA rules violation involving calling players too many times. So, the upper hand has to go to OU, simply because of that. I say the final score is 36-30, Oklahoma, OT.

Jason Frost: Oklahoma. OU has a better offense, better defense, better special teams, play in a stronger conference, and have a better/existant coach. OU big.

Bottom Line: Oklahoma 3, West Virginia 0

Bowl Previews and Predictions: Sugar Bowl

Sugar Bowl

Background:
The two teams have never met.

Georgia: 6 game win streak, including wins over Florida, Auburn, and Kentucky
Hawaii: 12 Game Winning Streak over everything

Georgia Advantages:
Georgia has reason to beat Hawaii....to make sure that they don't become the next Boise State.
They faced a much tougher schedule, beating 4 ranked opponents along the way.
They have a very promising Freshman runner in Knowshon Moreno. He finished 2nd in SEC rushing.
They have a combo in the backfield, with vet Thomas Brown playing alongside Moreno.
It's not hard to get to New Orleans from Georgia....they'll outnumber the Hawaii fans 10-1. Or more.
As with pretty much every SEC team, they have a good defense.

Georgia Disadvantages:
Losses to South Carolina and Tennessee, both winnable games from Georgias standpoint.
Georgia could possibly treat this game as a "letdown game", having not reached the BCS championship.
Their pass offense is ranked 84th.

Hawaii Advantages:
They won all 11 of their games.
Most were won pretty handily, although a couple were unnessessarily close calls.
They have one of the best offenses in the nation, with Heisman Caliber QB Colt Brennan throwing to 3 recievers who all rank in the top 8 in the nation in receptions per game, and have all surpassed the 1000 yard mark.
Utah and Boise State won, so if Hawaii could win, it would make the case for a playoff even stronger.
It's their first trip out of Hawaii since the 1992 Holiday Bowl, so they're excited to say the least.

Hawaii Disadvantages:
There's no way more than 1,000 fans make it across the Atlantic Ocean and into the Bayou of New Orleans.
Of course, Hawaii has played noone good besides Boise State (upset by ECU). It's not nessessarily their fault, though....noone wants to come to Hawaii from some reason (although when you really think about it, it sounds silly.)
None of the team (except Colt Brennan) has even SEEN a good football team, much less a BCS worthy one.
Their defense is is nothing special....and that's against weak teams.
Their running offense is 113th in Division I. Yeah, safe to say they'll be passing a lot.

Writer Predictions:

Jason Frost: TBA

OKLuschen: TBA

Zorgon: Hawaii. Okay, okay, all signs point to Georgia, but if Hawaii can just stop the run, they've got it made. Georgias defense may be good, but I'm sure Hawaii's Triple-WR passing attack can torch it. This could become a big time scorefest if Hawaii gets the pass going and Georgia gets its run going, which I'm sure will both happen. So, key for both teams: Stop the other teams run/pass. And, hey we need playoffs! Not Bowls! Go Hawaii! (Win in OT)

Bottom Line: Georgia 0, Hawaii 1

Bowl Previews and Predictions: Rose Bowl

Background:USC leads series 10-2

Illonois has won its last 4
USC has won its last 4

Illinois advantages:
They beat the number one team in the country
They are 5th in the nation in rushing being led by Rashard Mendenhall and Juice
Michigan beat Florida so the PAC 10 looks stronger then expected
They have the 19th best total defense in the country
They have a QB named Juice

Illinois disadvantages:
They have a sub par passing game
This is their first bowl in 6 years so inexperience could be a factor
As the 13th ranked team in the country they are lucky to be in a BCS game

USC advantages:
Since their loss to Stanford they are 6-1 and +103 in points
They have a fantastic offense putting up no less then 17 points all season
They have allowed the 4th fewest points in the D1
They are USC meaning they have experience, are well coached, and are extremely talented

USC disadvantages:
They lost to the Christmas Tess which could haunt USC only a week after Christmas
Despite their offense being consistent they are not in the top ten in any offensive categories
Chess Comparison:USC is Vladimir Kramnik who is a fantastic defender and used to winning, Illinois is Magnus Carlsen, the 17 year old prodigy who is getting closer and closer to joining the elite.

Projections:
Jason Frost:USC. Despite Florida's loss to Michigan, I am still not certain about the PAC TEN. This match up looks to be a mismatch with one of the hottest teams in the country, that has proven their ability to stop the run playing against the team that should not be in the BCS and has no passing attack. Look for the experienced Trojans to win big 31-14.

Zorgon: Illinois. USC has looked weak to me all season, and Illinois has a guy named Juice Williams! Juice Williams! That alone is enough to win. In all reality, if Illinois can get their offense going, I'm sure they can beat the stumbling USC, who is oozing with talent every which direction.

Bottom Line: USC 1, Illinois 1

Bowl Previews and Predictions: Gator Bowl

Gator Bowl

Background:
The two teams have never met.

Streak:
Tech is coming off a monster victory over Oklahoma
Virginia lost it's last game to in-state rival Va. Tech.

Texas Tech Advantages:
As always, Texas Tech will enter this game with the number one passing attack in the country.
Michael Crabtree is arguably the best receiver in the nation, and this as only a freshman. The kid's got speed and hands, kind of a Santana Moss-type.
Texas Tech is the only team in the Big XII to be above .500 each of the last 12 seasons.

Texas Tech Disadvantages:
The defense is nothing special. Not bad, but certainly not good either.
One of the most one dimensional teams in the country. They give teams chances in the fourth quarter 'cause they can't run the ball.

Virginia Advantages:
They feature a stout, aggresive defense, led by All-American Chris Long (son of Raiders great Howie Long)
QB Jameel Sewell has shown much improvement towards the end of the season.
Virginia has certainly shown the ability to win the close one, winning six of their games by 7 or less, two of those by 3 or less and three of those by 1!

Virginia Disadvantages:
Their ability to win the close one could most likely be just luck.
The offense is nothing special and, at times, has been down right futile.
A loss to Wyoming and a two point win against Middle Tennessee State...interesting...

Writer's Predicitions:
okluschen: Texas Tech. The Cavaliers simply can't keep pace with high flyin' Red Raider offense. The Cavs have been very fortunate in many games this season. Give Jameel Sewell a couple more years to mature and then we'll talk, but for now, I like Harrell and Crabtree.

Jason Frost: TBA

Zorgon: Texas Tech. Virginia is just a lucky duck. Too many close calls. Well, Texas Tech has pretty much sucked it up too, but they are 1st ranked overall in passing offense, and second in total offense. They can surely run against the best, and the Harrell-Crabtree combination (that even I knew the name of before reading this preview) is ace. However, if Virginia can somehow stop Texas Techs passing game (possible, their defense is a respectable #35), they will have pretty much have stopped the whole team (texas Techs run game is ranked DEAD LAST). But, if OU couldn't stop them, I doubt Virginia will. Texas Tech big.

Bottom Line: Texas Tech 2, Virginia 1

Bowl Previews and Predictions: Outback Bowl

Outback Bowl

Background:
Tennessee leads the Series, 1-0. The game was the Garden State Bowl, in 1981.

Tennessee: Loss to LSU after a 5 game win streak
Wisconsin: Wins at Michigan and Minnesota

Tennessee Advantages:
All of their losses were to opponents in the top 12 (at the time of play), excluding Alabama.
Took care of business in the SEC, finishing 2nd.
They were essentially a couple plays away from being a BCS team. That's where 'BAMA come back to bite ya.
Have a very well established caoch in Fulmer, been there since 1992.
Solid running game, Adrian foster has 1,162 yards and 12 TDs.

Tennessee Disadvantages:
They will be missing 1 of their 2 main recievers (Lucas Taylor) among 5 other players, 2 of them starters (LB, DT).
Have a ho-hum defense that is missing two players.

Wisconsin Advantages:
Has defeated the SEC in bowls each of the past two seasons.
Bad boy Lance Smith-Williams might light it up in his first game outside of Madison (due to violating team policy).
They have a defense that is more than decent enough to beat Tennessees reciever-less offense.

Wisconsin Disadvantages:

Zorgon: Tennessee. As I go on, it's harder and harder to find big disadvantages to these teams, since they become increasingly good and less one-dimensional. This team got kinda screwed like Missouri did-losing out for playing in a conference championship game. Tennessee in an extremely close one.

Background: The series is tied at 0-0-1. The game was played in 1930. We'll have to look at this 7-7 tie pretty closely to determine the outcome of this bowl game.

Indiana: Win against Purdue
Oklahoma State: Loss to Oklahoma

Indiana Advantages:
They are playing in the memory of their lost coach, Terry Hoeppner. His dream was to get to a bowl, and they did, for the first time since 1993.
Their Kicker, Austin Starr, kicked them into this bowl with a win over Old Oaken Bucket Rival, Purdue.
They have an All-Star wideout in James Hardy. 75 catches, 1,075 yards, and 16 touchdowns is nothing to sneeze at, even in the Big 10. He has more touchdowns than most quarterbacks!
To compensate for their passing game, they have a moblie Quarterback in Kellen Lewis, who ran for more TDs (8) than the runningback. He has also thrown for 26 TDs and 10 INTs.

Indiana Disadvantages:
The Big 10 is a weaker conference, and has been under much scrutiny.
They lost to a poo Northwestern team, and won the Purdue game almost by sheer will.
Statistically, their offense and defense is kind of muddled in the early 60s.
Their running game is OK, but not nearly as potent as their passing game.

Oklahoma State Advantages:
They come out of what is arguably a stronger conference.
QB Zac Robinson has really come on as a star, throwing for 20 TDs in a tough Big 12.
Aside from their great passing game, Dantrell Savage helps them a lot by leading the Big 12 in rushing yardage. He even had a 108 yard game against the tough Oklahoma D.
A lot of the games they faced were virtually unwinnable. I'd hate to face 3 BCS teams and Texas.
They have 4 go to recievers, which gives them a real spread-out passing attack.

Oklahoma State Disadvantages:
Suffered a then incredibly embarrassing loss to Troy.
The NFL Network will probobly play the Mike Gundy press conference 22 times during the game.
They have an atrocious defense, ranked 103rd in the nation.

Zorgon: Indiana. Mike Gundy himself said that the teams who win Bowl games are the ones who want to be there more, and I couldn't agree more wholeheartedly. Indiana is playing in the memory of a coach who just died, and who was cheering for the team until the very end of his life. Oklahoma State, meanwhile, is trudging to another medicore bowl while reciecing waaaay too much money from Boone Pickens. They know they deserve more, and I just don't know if they care. Oh, and their defense is worse than Toledos. Oklahoma State is better, but I say Indiana wins a very close, very offensive game by sheer willpower.

Background:

Fresno State leads the series 1-0, with a Silicon Valley Classic victory on Dec. 31st, 2002.

Georgia Tech: Loss to Georgia

Fresno State: Wins at Kansas State and New Mexico State

Georgia Tech Advantages:

Has beaten a powerful Clemson team.

They were just a smidgen away from beating Maryland and Virginia.

They pride themselves on a 12th ranked defense.

The players will want to put on a good impression for their new coach, Paul Johnson. Especially the offense.

Tashard Choice dominated the ACC in rushing....athough that might not say much.

Their defensive coordinator is running the team....which will probobly make the defense really good.

Georgia Tech Disadvantages:

Aside from the Clemson win, their other wins were either over Division II or non-bowl opponents.

The ACC is an incredibly easy football conference.

Their coach got booted after losing 6 straight years to Georgia.

Playing in the Deep South, some of the players have never even seen snow, and they may just have to play in it.

Fresno State Advantages:

They've beaten a Big 12 opponent, Kansas State.

Fresno State has had recent post season success, and has won more than one Humanitarian Bowl before.

They played then ranked Texas A&M close, and have only been blown out by Oregon.

They are an incredibly balenced team, not relying on one superstar to do everything like a lot of mid-major bowl teams.

The QB, Tom Brandstater, has had a decent season.

Fresno State Disadvantages:

They have beaten 0, that's right, 0 Bowl eligible teams.

Neither their offense nor defense really stand out statistically speaking.

All of their statistics should be looked at skeptically given their easy schedule.

Zorgon: Georgia Tech. Fresno State is really only in a bowl because the WAC needed a 3rd horse. It was really a two team conference this year, and now that one of those top dogs (Boise State) has been embarrassed, what makes me think the distant 3rd place bulldogs will win? Georgia Tech is not a great team by any means, but they're probobly in the Top 35. I will give Fresno some credit though, as they have played a lot of games close. There is a distinct possibility of upset, but I think I'm gonna have to go with the overdogs by a 10 point or so margin.

Arkansas has won their last two

Missouri dropped its last game to Oklahoma in the Big XII Championship game.

Arkansas Advantages:
Sorry Reggie, but Darren McFadden and Adrian Peterson are the two baddest dudes I've ever seen running the football on the college level. He's simply the best prospect available in the upcoming draft.

They've got four wins against bowl eligible teams this season, including LSU, who'll be playing for the national title.

Don't forget about Felix Jones, he's terribly overshadowed by McFadden and he himself could challenge for the Heisman nect season.

Arkansas Disadvantages:
Uh, let's try Mike Conley Sr. If his SUV costs DMac his eligibility, than the Razorbacks can kiss the cotton bowl goodbye.

Coaching turmoil, with Houston Nutt gone and of course the Bobby Petrino distraction looming.

The defense is not up to par with the usual SEC standards.

Missouri Advantages:
We all know how good Chase Daniel has been this season. The big Tex is dengerous both in and out of the pocket. He also ranks 4th in the nation in total offense.

Speaking of offense there are more playmakers than just Daniel for Missouri. Freshman Jeremy Maclin has explosive speed and is the tigers go-to guy on the outside and on the reverse. They also have the best TE duo in the country, with Martin Rucker and Chase Coffman. Tony Temple, though doesn't run often, makes plays when he's callded upon.

Only team with two wins over two BCS schools.

Missouri Disadvantages:
Chase Daniel and crew have the tendancy to choke off the big game. CHase Daniel gets frustrated easily, as evidenced by his behavior in the Big XII Championship.

Not so sharp in the secondary, giving up 261.46 yards per game.

Could be very disapointed after having the chance to play in New Orleans fot the title, and settling for Dallas and the Cotton.

Writer Picks:
okluschen: If McFadden plays, then I got the Razorbacks, but if he doesn't, Missouri steamrolls. McFadden is not only capable of winning entire games by himself, but has done it several times before. However, with no McFadden, there goes 3/4s of their playbook including the entire Wild Hog formation. It all depends on if the stud plays.

Zorgon: Missouri. With all honesty, this team should be in the BCS. Being punished for going to the Big XII title game? Puh-leaze. Darren McFadden Scharem McShmadden, Chase Daniel was closer to winning the Heisman than he was. Arkansas has come up big in wins against LSU and South Carolina, but if you look at their schedule, its full of Florida International, North Texas, Mississippi, and Chattanooga type games which are prime for pumping Mr.McFaddens stats. Missouri proves it's place.

Auburn Advantages:
As usual, The Tigers have one of the toughest defenses in the country. They can hang with anybody.

Had an awesome win against Florida and shoulda knocked off LSU, except Les Miles is an evil genius.

Auburn Disadvantages:
Other than the Gators, Tommy Tuberville hasn't done too much this season.

The offense is as stanky as Mark Mangino's bathroom after Mexican night.

Clemson Advantages:
Cullen Harper has come from out of nowhere to become one of the best QBs in the ACC.

Though Clemson may play in the ACC, they certainly have an SEC quality defense, top 10 in the nation.

They've won 5 of their last six, scoring 42.8 points per game in those wins. 4 of those 5 came against bowl eligible teams. The only loss in that strech was by three to a good Boston College team.

Clemson Disadvantages:
As always, Tommy Bowden is in the fans' hot seat.

They seem to have trouble protecting the QB, allowing 2.67 sacks per game this season.

Writer's Predictions:
okluschen: Clemson. These teams have a lot in common. Both are called the Tigers. Both have coaches named Tommy. Both have elite college defenses. However, Clemson does have the upper hand, in that they have the better offense by far. Expect Clemson to win the slug fest, with the point total not exceeding 24.

Zorgon: Auburn. The SEC is probably the toughest conference in the land, and Auburn has been a trooper. They have a bad loss to Mississippi State, but comeon, Clemson? They have no power wins, and really have no place being ranked #15. Auburn torches Clemson, and then eats them for dinner. Then, they reheat Clemson in the microwave and eats the rest for breakfast.

Background: Florida State leads the series, 3-1-1. They have not met since 1965.

Kentucky Advantages:

They have a pro-ready Quarterback in Andre Woodson.

They have a top 25 passing offense.

Kentucky Disadvantages:

They really started falling apart once they faced tough competition.

Their defense leaves something to be desired.

Really nothing stands out besides Andre Woodson.

Florida State Advantages:

This could be Bobby Bowden's second-to-last season, so the team does have SOME motivation to win.

Drew Weatheford isn't pretty, but he's surely not interception prone. He will probobly not have trouble with this defense.

Florida State Disadvantages: Well, for one, they'll be missing a lot of players. However, it should be noted that the offense is mostly intact, and the main losses are backups, Cornerback Patrick Robinson (6 INTs), and Linebacker Dekota Watson. So, they'll have big trouble defending against Kentuckys potent offense, expecially with an already bad pass defense.

They could have come off decently had they won a couple of easy games at Wake Forest and Miami.

I know I point to it all of the time, but their season was the 3rd straight of dissapointment for a once proud college.

Air Force Advantages:

The Mountain West has gone 3-0 in bowls this year.

Found their running attacks stride late in the season to already coombine with the already deadly air attack (Irony!).

Looks to have a bright future.

Air Force Disadvantages:

Has not faced a ranked team all year.

Whenever faced with a halfway decent team, has crumbled. Best wins over Utah and TCU.

California Advantages:

Had a 5 game win streak to start off the season.

Beaten Tennessee and Oregon.

Has a lot more talent than Air Force.

The loss of their #1 reciever, DeSean Jackson, may explain the Stanford loss.

California Disadvantages:

Are on a terrible skid after being considered BCS-worthy. (Losses to Stanford and Washington.)

Their quarterback (Nate Longshore) has been known to make dumb mistakes. Also has a chipped ankle bone, limiting his explosiveness.

The Pac-10 has done terrible in bowls this season.

Just seem to have given up in general. From Yahoo! Sports: ""This is definitely a new low for us," Cal safety Thomas DeCoud said after the loss. "It's kind of too late to salvage anything, but we just want to get to a bowl game and end on the right note so the younger guys can get this program back to where it was.""

Zorgon: Air Force. The analysis is short on this one because the bowl is simple as pie. Cal is lucky to be in a bowl at all. Their players are banged up. Their heads are hung low. Air Force is coming in with their heads held high out of a surprisingly strong Mountain West. The only way I could see a Cal upset (yes, a Cal upset, Air Force should definately be the favourites) is if they win by sheer talent and/or depth. Air Force wins using excellent arial attacks and bombs out the competition. (IRONY!!!!)

South Florida is on a three game winning streak

Oregon Advantages:
Jonathan Stewart makes plays running, catching, and returning kicks. He's a true speed demon and an all-Pac-10 performer.

The Ducks bring good pressure, they're 14th in the nation in sacks and 1st in the nation in tackles for loss.

They're 12th in the nation in total offense!*

Oregon Disadvantages:
*Well, they're only missing the best multi-purpose QB since Vince Young. This O ain't squat without Dennis Dixon. On top of that, they're down to their 5th stringer at QB.

A three game losing streak, they're as cold as tundra.

South Florida Advantages:
The former number 2 team in the nation

Trae Williams and Mike Jenkins are an elite duo at corner. To add to this is Ben Moffit at linebacker, a truely bruttle force both against the run and the pass.

Great wins against Auburn, West Virginia, and UCF

South Florida Disadvantages:
They certainly aren't the second best team in the nation, never have been, and maybe never will be.

Matt Grothe is a risk taker at QB. He's got a 13-12 TD-Int ratio.

Writer's Picks:
okluschen: South Florida. Though I think that Oregon will be somewhat improved on offense for this game, they've done more than prove that they can't win without their star player. South Florida has had a historic year for their program, and I think they'll top the kings of Nike.
P.S. Don't hurt your eyes watching these two teams color schemes.

Zorgon: South Florida. Oregon is full of quitters, as evidenced by their 3 game slide. They always slip on a banana peel, but unlike other teams who just get back up, they fall down a waterfall. I don't care if South Florida had a coupel questionable losses, the fact is they beat West Virginia and Auburn, which should be more than enough for the Oregon Quitters. Oh, and they don't have Dennis Dixon. Riiiight.

Background:

The two teams have never met.

Colorado: Win at Nebraska

Alabama: 4 Straight Losses

Colorado Advantages:

They beat Oklahoma.

They have a knack for comebacks, but this may only show people how badly they always start off.

Sometimes, their offense clicks quite well.
They have a very good running back (Hugh Charles). However, it remains to be seen if the O-Line can open any holes for him.

Their kicker can be clutch (Oklahoma game).

Colorado Disadvantages:
Their offensive line is an abhorration. In some games earlier this season, they had to call a shotgun formation on every play, because if they didn't, the Quarterback would be sacked. And no, they didn't run it either.

It can be argued that Cody Hawkins (Colorado QB) would never have seen the light of day if his Dad (Dan Hawkins) was not coach of his football team.

Aside from their win at Oklahoma, their terrible losses outplay their so-so wins. Loss to Iowa State? Comeon.

They have never blown out a team, except for Baylor (And Baylor has beaten football powerhouses such as Texas State! Buffalo! Even Rice!)

Colorado State is beating Colorado in many categories....hell, maybe they're even better than Colorado. Colorado only beat them by a field goal.

Alabama Advantages:

Solid wins over Tennessee, Houston, and Arkansas (when they were ranked.)

Every single loss was winnable. This team just had a few (more than a few) bad bounces their way. A few catches here and there, and this team could be in the BCS.

They'll probobly have a lot of fans making the trip.

Alabamas defense has a good chance of stopping Colorados rollercoaster offense.

If they can complete a few passes, they can beat Colorados 102-ranked pass defense.

Alabama Disadvantages:

Just completely collapsed at the end of the season, with losses to Louisiana-Monroe and Mississippi State.

This team simply hasn't been able to finish their business in the games and in their schedule.....and we can only wonder about the bathroom.

The whole season has been a Titanic dissapointment.

Central Florida is on a 7 game win streak
Mississippi State won it's last game, it was the Egg Bowl against Ole Miss

Central Florida Advantages:
Let's see, I hear this Kevin Smith guy is alright. He's put together a modest 188 YPG and 30 TDs this season. In all seriousness, this gut should've been watching the Heisman ceremonies from New York. I'd be pissed, but is he? Let's ask Kevin. "We've got a conference championship. I'll take that over a Heisman any day. The conference championship trophy doesn't have anybody's individual name on it -- it only has the name of your team." Seems well grounded to me.

They absolutely tore through Conference USA, winning their last 7 by an average of 17 points per game.

Central Florida Disadvantages:
Pretty one dimensional on the offensive side of the ball.

The pass defense has been bad, giving up almost 250 yards a game.

The competition in Conference USA has been a lot better than it is this season.

Haven't seen an SEC quality defense all season, except maybe when they played USF, a game in which they were crushed.

Mississippi State Advantages:
The defense is very salty, 10th in the nation in pass defense and 28th in total defense.

I really think that Sylvester Croom is a top notch coach. Evidence A) Mississippi State is actually in a bowl, B) his name is Sylvester (OK, so I made up B)

Were able to somehow survive the bloodthirsty SEC with a .500 record in conference

Mississippi State Disadvantages:
Little (as in none at all) bowl experience by anyone on the team.

I just got a call from Rex Grossman, and he says that this offense is disgusting. That means it must be bad, and it is. Barely over 300 yards per game on offense.

Writer Predictions:

okluschen: UCF. I like MSU, but I think the Bulldogs are outmatched by UCF here. Kevin Smith is a once in a lifetime player, and Miss State couldn't move the ball out of a paper sack.

Zorgon: Mississippi State. Whenever faced with a stout defense, UCF has, put simply, crumbled like a bun in the hands of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Meanwhile, MSU has faced ranked opponents in HALF of their games, has quality wins over Auburn and Kentucky, and only has one loss to a non-ranked opponent (Auburn). Defense wins championships, and Mississippi State wins handily over the Conference USA creampuffs who barely lost to a poopoo Texas team and to run-reliant ECU.

They have the 14th best rushing attack in the country

Wake Forest: 2 Game Win Streak

Connecticut: Loss to West Virginia

Wake Forest Advantages:

Has beaten bowl teams such as Navy, Florida State, and Maryland.

Their strong (#16 ranked) running game should no problem tearing up the ho-hum rush defense of Connecticut.

They beat UConn early last year. It might not matter though, because many UConn fans would not like me to compare this years team to last years 4-8 effort.

They are tied for best in the nation in interceptions returned for touchdowns.

They are playing in their own playground.

Their kick returner has a very good average.

Wake Forest Disadvantages:

Connecticuts 15th-ranked pass defense could be trouble for their developing QB, Riley Skinner. He has the 2nd best completion rate in the nation, but has 11 TDs and 12 INTs.

They won all of the games they were supposed to, but they flailed every time they had the opportunity to come up with a big win.

Connecticut Advantages:

Probobly one of the most underrated teams in college football, simply because of name. Excellent wins over Rutgers and South Florida, and a not-to-sneeze-at 9-3 record good for 1st in the Big East.

Their QB has shown ability to handle the ball, getting only 5 picks this season compared to 13 touchdowns.

Their fans are extremely excited to be at the bowl, and so are the players. Wake Forest, meanwhile, is a bit down from their previous season, so energy may not run as high.

Their kicker gets a lot of attempts, and he does a solid job of nailing them.

The QB may spend some time running, but there's no doubt he can bang in a few against the 78th ranked pass defense.

Connecticut Disadvantages:

It's no secret that once you get past the Rutgers and South Florida wins, their wins are really powderpuff.

Their offensive line has been atrocious this season, allowing for 28 sacks. I won't be surprised to see him on his back a few times, but don't think it'll be a Jimmy Clausen type performance.

Their defense leaves a lot to be desired.

Writer Predictions:

Jason Frost: Ketchup on Spaghetti is Mmmm-mmmm-licious!

OKLuschen: Wake Forest. Probably the best matchup of the season between two historic powers...O, wait, this ain't hardwood. UConn sucks, so that means Wake Forest wins...somehow.

Zorgon: Connecticut. I like to point to the schedule strength a lot, but I won't this time. Wake Forest may be in their backyard, but it's not like getting to Charlotte from Connecticut is a $1,000 trip. I'm sure there's a lot of old and young Huskie fans psyched to finally go to a bowl and cheer on their team, and the players are psyched, too. If UConn can stop the run, then I'm sure their potent offense could give Wake a run for their money. Protect the ball, make easy, short passes, the game is theirs. I could see a Wake win if they pressure UConns QB and get the run going. I'll take the underdog in a close one.

Bottom Line: Wake Forest 1, Connecticut 1, Ketchupless Spaghetti 1

Background:

Maryland is on a one game win streak
Oregon State is on a three game win streak, however, the last game was in double OT against the Dixon-less Ducks of Oregon

Maryland Advantages:
Maryland has opened up the playbooks recently, using the long ball more and incorparating a QB option game.

They've defeated two top 10 teams this season

A solid 28th in the nation in scoring defense

Maryland Disadvantages:
Despite marginal improvement in the latter part of the season, the offense is still 77th in the nation in scoring and 88th in yards per game.

They simply can not protect the quarterback

The Emerald Bowl in San Francisco is a very long distance from home in College Park.

Oregon State Advantages:
Yvenson Bernard is yet another talented dreadlocked RB for the Beavers, he has 12 TDs and 6 100-yard plus rushing games on the season.

Oregon State has been beastly on rush defense this season, second in the nation

They are a superb pass rushing team, which is all they need against this poor Maryland O.

Oregon State Disadvantages:
They are terrible in both the punting and the punt return game.

Most impressive win? Good question, is it Cal, Utah, Dennis Dixon-less Oregon. Not a very good resum'e.

Writer's Predictions:
okluschen: Oregon State. The Beavers have much more impressive stats, but the Terps have more impressive results, victory-wise. The key to this matchup is Maryland's offensive line (which can't protect the QB) against Oregon State's defensive pass rush (which can't stay away from the QB). I like the Beavers big in this bowl.

Zorgon: Oregon State. They may have a couple bad losses, but oh so many sizzlin' power wins. And Maryland is a pithy 6-6, 5th in the ACC, and has a bunch of terrible conference losses at that. That's all you need to know. Oregon State FTW!!!!

Background:

The two teams have never met.

Texas: 5 Straight Wins through Big 12 competition before a demoralizing loss to Texas A&M
Arizona State: 1 Loss to Arizona

Texas Advantages:
They come out of arguably the toughest conference in the nation, the Big 12.
Both teams are virtually even on offense and defense, but Texas holds the upper hand in talent.
Arizona is closer, but I have no doubt that there's a lot more die-hard Texas fans willing to make the trip.
Colt McCoy is a great Scrambling QB, just the facet they may need to win this game.
Ryan Bailey won't make any All-Kicking lists, but he's pretty solid as far as Kickers go.

Texas Disadvantages:
They lost against arguably sub-par opponents Texas A&M and Kansas State.
The team is largely inconsistent.
Struggled against vastly inferior competition such as UCF, Nebraska, and Oklahoma State.
If one was to write one word about the Texas season, in most peoples minds the word would be underachievement.
Colt McCoy will likely get intercepted more than once by an excellent Arizona State pass defense.

Arizona State Advantages:
Their only two losses were to USC and Oregon, which is not embarassing at all.
They beat all of their opponents quite handily.
Dennis Erickson comes from lowly Idaho to Arizona State. This, after a long ago and successful previous run with Miami. He then turns the Sun Devils from hapless under Dirk Koetter to almost BCS.
With both teams having spicy run defense, it's likely that the game will be decided through the air....and Rudy Carpenter is much less interception-prone than Colt McCoy.
Their kicker, Thomas Weber, is near perfect on the season, having only missed one extra poins and one 30 some yarder on the season. His range caps out at about 50, though.

Arizona State Disadvantages:
They haven't really proven themselves by beaten a really strong team.
They may be dissapointed at their lower bowl positioning.
They have no go to guy in the rushing game, preferring to spread it among 3 players.
I highly doubt this team is very deep. One injury could entirely tilt the game.

Writer Predictions:

Jason Frost: Arizona State. Texas has shown a significant liability with their inability to stop the pass, while their offense has been largly inconcistant. Expect Arizona State to pass the ball and win by a TD.

OKLuschen: Texas. Arizona State led by coach Dennis Erickson is a good story, but Texas has the talent advantage. Colt McCoy and Jamaal Charles should be too much to handle for Arizona State. A traditional shootout in San Diego will result in a Longhorn victory, should be a fun game to watch.

Zorgon: Arizona State. Ah, the bowl of disappointment. Almost every team that ever lands in the Holiday Bowl usually had higher expectations, and is looking for a positive way to finish an otherwise bad season. In this case, Arizona State has the upper hand on a Texas team that could have easily been 6-6 and staring at Poinsettias or nothing at all.

Bottom Line: Texas 1, Arizona State 2

Boston College: lost last game to Va. Tech in the ACC Championship

Michigan State: 2 game win streak

Boston College Advantages:
The Golden Eagles have one of the best quarterbacks in the country in former Heisman frontrunner Matt Ryan

The defense is very salty, especially the front 7, which controls the land's top rush defense.

BC has been excellent in bowl games in recent history

Boston College Disadvantages:
They sort of stumbled through the last part of the season, and are certainly not the team they once were.

Playing in the ACC and a soft nonconference schedule may have helped the ol' win column

After being number 2 in the nation, the Eagles may be disapointed in yet another December bowl game.

Michigan State Advantages:
The offense is balanced and in the top 25 in scoring.

They are effecient with the ball, in the top 30 in turnover margin

The aggresive defense of the Spartans is perhaps the key to disrupting the potent Matt Ryan and crew.

Michigan State Disadvantages:
They have trouble in the field position game, with poor rankings in both the punt and punt return categories.

The offensive line has been, well, offensive much of the year, at least when it comes to pass protection

The Spartans haven't taken to the gridiron since November 17th!

Writer's Predictions:
Zorgon: Boston College. They've won a lot of big games this year, and I know this game will be close. Matt Ryan is excellently clutch, and can easily beat any team that lost to Northwestern and Iowa. Boston college wins by 3.

okluschen: Boston College. I wasn't sold on the Eagles for much of the season, but I think they have the edge in this match-up. Matt Ryan's skills and leadership can't be denied. BC in double-digits.

Bowl Previews and Predictions: Texas Bowl

TCU: 2 wins

East Carolina: 2 wins
TCU Advantages:
They are finally 100% healthy
Since they return of Defensive End Tommy Blake they are 3-1 with their only loss coming in a close game against BYU(the 4 games also included a 37-0 win against New Mexico)

They have allowed the 17th fewest yards per game and have racked up two shutouts(including a 27-0 win over Baylor and a 37-0 win over New Mexico)

They have one of the most balanced offenses in the country putting up 219 passing yards and 169 rushing yards a game.

TCU Disadvantages:
Their defense, despite being one of the top in D1, has proven to be inconsistent, while shutting out New Mexico they gave up 33 against lowly San Diego State.
Houston Advantages:
They have the 4th best offense in the country putting up 513 yards a game.

All 4 of their losses have come against teams playing in bowl games(Oregon, East Carolina, Alabama, and Tulsa)

They have balance on offense 273.3 passing yards 239.9 rushing yards a game.

Houston Disadvantages:
They will be without their coach(also their offensive coordinator) who took the Baylor job.
They have lost their previous 7 meetings against Houston.
Chess Comparison: TCU is Peter Svidler a solid all around performer who is considered very talented yet underperforming. Houston is Loek van Wely one of the most aggressive players who has great success wining with both black and white.

Jason Frost: Houston. With exception to their loss to Tulsa, Houston has consistently been a strong team throughout the season and their interim coach has already credited this game to their coach. TCU on the other hand has been very inconsistent offensively and defensively and has largely underachieved. Look for Houston to win by a TD.

OKLuschen: Houston. It'll be close, I'll give ya that. But Houston in Houston, and you never know what Horned Frog team will show up. I like that Houston offense, so I say Cougars in this one.

Zorgon: Houston. This Game is really dead even. Houston has an excellent offense, while TCU has a stalwart defense. TCU has nastly losses to Air Force and Wyoming, but Houston has lost ther Coach, Coach Briles. They've hired a Oklahoma assistant, but he won't coach Houston, so as not to ruin their offense. In the end, no coach isn't enough of an effect, and Houston has no embarassing losses. Houston squeaks one out like a rubber ducky.

Central Michigan Advantages:
The offense is more than solid, Top 25 in the nation in scoring.

Dan LeFevour is one of those one of a kind improvisational playmakers.

Central Michigan Disadvantages:
The defense on the other hand is down right disgusting.

A loss to North Dakota State. Not even a close game either.

And, they've already lost to Purdue in the regular season!

Purdue Advantages:
Like I said, they've already won this game in the regular season.

The passing game is solid, top 25 in the nation.

Purdue Disadvantages:
Beaten nobody this season

They can't run the ball

They're ok at best on defense

Writer's Picks:
Zorgon: Purdue. They've beat Central Michigan before, and they'll beat 'em again. Central Michigan has had a schedule of terrible proportions and a couple questionable losses. It wll be a shootout of epic proportions....but one must keep in mind that Central Michigans defense is ranked 106th. That is what will break their back. Purdue by a few.

okluschen: Purdue. Never pick a MAC team over a Big Ten team, no matter how overhyped. Purdue gets it done in a deja vu affair.

Jason Frost: Purdue. Central Michigan has the 9th worst pass defense in the country and is going up for the second time against the pass first offense of Purdue. Don't be fulled by their recent skid, Purdue is still the same team they were when they had the 5 game win streak, they've since simply played better oponents. Expect a simular score to that of the last game with Pudue winning by a couple of TD's.

Background: The Two Teams have never met.

Boise State: 9 Straight Win Tear Through the WAC before a loss to Hawaii

East Carolina: 1 Win

Boise State Advantages:

Many players remain from the teams miracle run that ended in a Fiesta bowl win.

They have utterly dominated the WAC (Aside from Hawaii).

Statistically speaking, they are BCS good offensivly and defensively.

Boise State Disadvantages:

Incredibly weak schedule. It can be argued that ECU might've done just as well with their schedule.

They will be missing their top Wide Reviever due to a rules violation.

They will have very few fans.

East Carolina Advantages:

Has played respectably against tough non-conference opponents, such as Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

Has a couple power wins over bowl-teams Houston and Memphis.

They have a not-too-shabby running back, Chris Johnson.

East Carolina Disadvantages:

They have dismal offensive and defensive stats....in Conference USA.

They only have a good running game....and are going up against one of the best run-defenses in the country.

They have a pretty low-end kicker.

They also will have very few fans.

Hawaii Advantages:

They will have more fans here than Boise and East Carolina fans combined.

Writer Predictions:

Jason Frost: Boise State. East Carolina faithful will have a long way to travel to get to Hawaii, but fortunately for them it's Hawaii so they will have something to do after Boise State blows out their team. East Carolina has a lousy defense, and a far worse offense then Boise State, this one won't be close, Boise State by double digits.

OKLuschen: Boise State. It's not even close really. I can't see any reason that East Carolina should win this game at all. Broncos roll.

Zorgon: Boise State. It won't be a blowout, because they'll have to rely a lot more on their running game. Even if ECU does equal their running, I'd still venture that they have a better passing game and defense. I only see an ECU win if Ian Johnson gets injued and Chris Johnson goes carrazy. So, Boise with a sizeable win in front of this largely neutral crowd.

Played WAC powers Boise State and Hawaii very close, both could have easily been wins.

Nevada Disadvantages:
It's a good thing their offense is so potenet, because their defense gives up over 30 a game.

The Wolfpack have not beaten a bowl eligible team all season.

New Mexico Advantages:
Marcus Smith is a big play receiver for the Lobos, 11th in the nation in receptions and 25th in receiving yards per game.

John Sullivan has been one of the better kickers in the nation this year.

Hello, its the New Mexico Bowl.

New Mexico Disadvantages:
Honestly, I just named the kicker as an impact player.

They aren't a very good offensive team.

Defense is good everywhere, but great nowhere.

Lost leading rusher Rodney Ferguson to Academic Eligibility issues.

Writer Predicitions:
Zorgon: New Mexico. Nevada went 6-6 in the WAC. They are at an away game. They have 0 defense, and they've played close a lot of San Jose States this year. No way, Jose.

okluschen: New Mexico. They aren't very impressive offensively, but Nevada hasn't beaten much more than Pop Warners this season. Plus it's at home,where they are 5-1 this season.

Jason Frost: New Mexico. If this game was played anywhere else other then at University Stadium(what an original name, it should definantly be changed to WHO DEY STAD.) then Neveda would have a chance, yet unfortunantly for them they will have less players on the field. Look for the Lobos' home crowd to be the diffirence and New Mexico to win 37-30.

Background:

UCLA leads series 7-1.

UCLA: 1 Loss.
BYU: 9 Game Winning Streak

UCLA Advantages:

They beat BYU earlier in the year, 27-17.

They've had big wins, beating California and Oregon.

They are an unpredictable team, but if they somehow turn it on for this game (Hopefully, it's a bowl game) they have a sizeable chance of winning.

They are much more experienced in playing big-time Pac-10 teams, and if you look at their schedule, it looked like a 6-6 season any way you slice it.

They have an excellent kicker, which could come in handy for their tired offense.

UCLA Disadvantages:

Their coach got fired, and their Defensive coordinator is the head coach.

It has been considered an overall dissapointment of a season for the usually stronger Bruins.
Their defense has been easily broken by any decent offensive team....those shoes are easily filled by BYU.

They've lost against some real stinkers, such as Washington State and Notre Dame.

They have lost multiple players on offense, so it's unlikely they'll be able to compete in a shootout.

THEY LOST TO NOTRE DAME!!!!

BYU Advantages:

Uh....can you say 10 wins?

Their only losses came to UCLA itelf (when they were ranked #13) and against a very strong Tulsa team.

They lead one of the best offenses in the nation, and could beat UCLA in a shootout.

They have one of the nations top defenses.

BYU Disadvantages:

They may be hot, but all of their wins have been over a lot of meaningless teams.

Their Kicking has been inconsistent.

Writer Predictions:

Zorgon: BYU. UCLA is coachless, has lost players, has been in a slump....I just don't know what else to say. Lopsided.

OKLuschen: BYU. UCLA has lost to a lot of teams worse than this in the course of the season. Brigham Young usually plays well in their bowl games, and and they are most likely the oldest team in the NCAA, which is good for maturity and experience.

Jason Frost: UCLA. The head coach is gone, but is this really a bad thing. The defensive cordinater is now coach, and he did an amazing job managing the only unit that did anything for the Bruins. Now with full controll over the team, expect a defensive battle with UCLA winning by a FG.

Bottom Line: BYU 2, UCLA 1

Cincinnati Advantages:
Quarterback Ben Mauk has 27 touchdown passes compared to just 4 INTs
They were a very solid 5-1 in games away from home this season.
The Bearcats feature the 15th ranked run defense and the top defense in INTs

Cincinnati Disadvantages:
Terribly undisciplined, 81.42 penalty yards per game
Excluding Oregon State, they had an woeful out of conference schedule
Barely over .500 in the ho-hum Big East

Southern Miss Advantages:
Damion Fletcher has proven to be a solid runner
Playing Boise State and Tennessee in the out of conference was impressive, though both losses.

Southern Miss Disadvantages:
No real quality wins this season
Can't get the pass game going.
Sorry, but Brett Favre is playing for Green Bay now.

Writer Predictions:

Zorgon: Cincinnati. They've faced a tough Big East Schedule, while beating Connecticut, Rutgers, and South Florida. They also have put up very good fights against very good teams. Southern Miss has virtually no power wins (East Carolina) with the rest being over crap, and their losses coming to the likes of Rice. Cincinnati has a tremendous pass proven against good teams. There is no reason the 4team in Conference USA should play the 2nd team in the Big East in a bowl. Biggest Mismatch so far. Cincinnati by a sizeable abount, but Southern Miss will not doubt play hard, this being the last game of long time coach Jeff Bower.

okluschen: Cincinnati. Southern Miss is only 5-3 in conference, and played possibly the three worst CUSA West division teams. Their offense also does not match up well against the Bearcat defense. The only way Cincy loses this game is if they beat themselves, which is entirely possibile, as it appears to be Flag Day every time they take the field

Jason Frost: Cincinnati has just finished one of the best regular seasons in school history and will most certainly get on a roll early. This one could get ugly, as Cincinnati will score dominate on offense and force turnovers on defense (23 int for the season is tops in Div 1).

Bottom Line: Cincinnati 3, Southern Miss 0

Bowl Previews and Predictions: New Orleans Bowl

New Orleans Bowl

Background:
The two teams have never met.

Florida Atlantic: 2 game win streak
Memphis: 3 game win streak

Florida Atlantic Advantages:
Almost all losses have been against Quality Opponents (Oklahoma State, Kentucky, South Florida, and Florida) with arguably one fluke loss (Louisiana-Monroe, by a Field Goal).
They have an old, very experienced coach in Howard Schnellenberger, who won't be leaving for a new job anytime soon (he's 73).

Florida Atlantic Disadvantages:
This is their first bowl game, so they are arguably inexperienced.
They may have quality losses, but the majority of their wins have been against lay-down opponents, with the exception of Troy.
They have a lower tier total defense and a mid-tier offense.

Memphis Advantages:
They're on a roll, having won 5 out of their last 6 games (perhaps out of sheer motivation) after the death of Taylor Bradford.
Memphis commands the #13 pass offense in the nation.
A lot of their games have been really close, so thyey have a lot of experience in pressure situations.

Memphis Disadvantages:
Their wins have been against sheer crap. There is no quality wins except perhaps over the Starting QB-less Southern Miss, with the rest being against teams that are at least 3 games below a winning record.
Their best opponent has been UCF, who whooped them, and the rest of their losses haven't been against exactly strong opponents.

Writer Predictions:

Zorgon: Florida Atlantic. You can tell who's gonna win this game simply by reasoning and strength of schedule. Memphis has had an absolute joke of a schedule, while Florida Atlantic pretty much had the toughest schedule possible. The only reason Memphis would be in over say, Troy is because of the massacre that occured at the school. My heart goes out to them, but all signs point to lots of burgers with schnellen sauce.

OKLuschen: Memphis. Don't get me wrong, ole' Schnell has done a great job. But comeon, it's FAU. They had a very nice win against Troy, but without that one game, they aren't even taking the field this holiday season. Memphis big.

Jason Frost: Memphis. The highpowered Memphis passing game will overpower the weak FAU secondary, look for a close, high scoring game with Memphis winning by a TD.

Bottom Line: Florida Atlantic 1, Memphis 2

Bowl Previews and Predictions: Poinsettia Bowl

At lack of anything better to do, I've decided to start a new feature here on Adonal Obsessed: Bowl Previews.

We will preview each upcoming bowl, and then give our predictions. Hopefully, it will be a good indicator for you if you need to bet on a bowl....or something. Anyway, on to the Preview!

Poinsettia Bowl

Background:
This is the first time these teams have met. A new rivalry, perhaps?

Navy: 4 Game Winning Streak, mostly against poo
Utah: Loss to Brigham Young, but 7 game tear through Mountain West Opponents

Utah Advantages:
Utah has gone through a much more rigourous schedule, and seems to have pulled it together after a 1-3 start.
They have a 6 game bowl winning streak stretching back to 1999. Considering they've gone through 3 coaches in this span, I'd consider this stat irrelevant.
They have the top scoring defense in the Mountain West.
They've been studying film since before the bowl was even announced. They're prepared.
They have one of the nations best kickers, Louie Sakoda.

Utah Disadvantages:
Although Navy has had a terrible schedule, Utahs hasn't exactly been strong.
Utah has relied a lot on their defenses scoring to win games.
They pretty much laid down against the stronger opponents early on.

Navy Advantages:
The coach losing thing is really overblown. The replacement is a guy who knows the type of offense they run well (Triple option rushing attack, I'm told), and the defensive coordinator is still there. Says Junior QB Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada, "Personally, I'm happy because we've got a coach who really knows the option. We got a curveball thrown at us, but we woke up and found out we already have a new coach."
Even though they have key bad losses, none of those teams has successfully stopped their monstrous rushing attack, and it's doubtful that Utah (who is mostly good at pass defense) can do that.
Navy has never exactly been blown out.... Had the ball gone the other way, Navy could easily be 10-2, and dare I say....ranked?

Navy Disadvantages:
They've lost their coach, which could be a moral blow. Historically, teams who lose their head coaches don't do very well.
The best team they've beaten is Pittsburgh, and after that, there's a huge dropoff. They've also recorded losses at Ball State, Delaware, and Wake Forest.
Their Passing attack is average at best, and that's against bad opponents.
Navy is only there because they have a contractual agreement to play in the Poinsettia Bowl every time they get a winning record.

Writer Predictions:

Zorgon: Utah. Navy probobly wouldn't even be in a bowl if it weren't for some stupid contract. Why not Troy? In any case, Navys defense has been kind of overlooked, but it's an absolute abhorration....and that's with a weak schedule. In any case, even if all of that equals out, I think Utah will win it through their star kiacker, and Navy still has their coach to worry about. Utah all the way.

OKLuschen: Utah. Inconsistancy is the key here. I like the more versatile Utah attack. Navy is also facing distractions thanks to coach Paul Johnson leaving for Georgia Tech. Utah will win, but take Navy in the points.

Jason Frost: Navy. Because they own.

Final Verdict: Utah 2, Navy 1

On Sunday, December 9th, 2007, CBS ended coverage of the Bills vs. Dolphins game a couple of seconds before it actually ended. (The ending of a game was a knee.) It was so because the game extended about 20 minutes into the 3 CST games, the Dolphins were winless, and the Bills had basically clinched the game since mid 1st Quarter.

The Real Reason the Warriors Won Vs. the Heat, Dec. 8th, 2007

You guys don't get the real reason why we won. It's because the Heat lost. The Warriors players may have put up a good fight late, but the Heat made a crucial error with about 10 minutes to go.

They took out both Mourning and Shaq. After winning all game and having it their way, they decide to try to small ball with us when there's 10 minutes to go with a team of half-retired men. That's just stupid, the only guy who could really do it was Dorell Wright. Shaq has the best plus minus on the team at +7! Mourning had third best at -3! The only other person who was not in the negatives was Jason Williams, who was injured in the first half, when the Heat were winning! Shaq was perfect from the field! So why, Pat Riley? Why?

Probobly just to prove some stupid point to Shaq.

So, in any case, it was a good win.

And Miami....I feel sorry for you.

Addendum: Shaq played only 21 minutes last game, and 21 in this one. AND he's complaining about not getting enough minutes. So there goes that point.

Now, most people see Seattle and think: "Oh, an up and coming team! With Kevin Durant, anything is possible! Think of the roleplayers, and Jeff Green! A couple more years, and they'll be right where Cleveland is now!"

So you say Okay, and ask about Philadelphia. They say: "Ugh, that craphole? They're nothing without Allen Iverson. All they've got is Andre Igoudala. They'll remain in rebuilding mode for a couple years with Minnesota."

So, why all of the 76er hate? Misconceptions.

All around, except for a couple less points, Igoudala IS the better all around player. And even if you did want to argue points, Kevin Durants shooting percentage is slightly less. Now of course, Andre Igoudala is almost fully developed while Kevin Durnat is only in his rookie year, but you have to understand that Kevin Durant has been given the KEYS to the franchise. He can do whatever he wants out there, because this season will be basically written off as "rebuilding". Andre Igoudala has to cooperate with two other proven talents on his team (Miller, Dalembert). He is such a more efficent and effective player. In closing, the final verdict is:

The players are about evenly matched big man wise. Chris Wilcox has a better offense, while Samuel Dalembert has a better defense. Chris Wilcox has slightly better non-big-man categories (AST, STL), so I'll give the slight edge to him.

Now it is clearly seen that the teams are evenly matched. Yet people are still skeptical.

Hell, this same Philly team almost rallied back for the playoffs last year WITHOUT Allen Iverson!

And don't even talk to me about the future. Andre Igoudala is a good player, and while he may not be as good as Kevin Durant, he can definately hold his own. Both teams have their draft picks for next year. They have roughly the same Salary Cap (not to mention Philadelphia will get out of cap hell a year earlier when Chris Webber and Aaron McKies contracts expire, and Seattle will have to wait two years to get under the cap while having to resign some essential players.)

So, I've spit out all of this information, and made it clear that Philadelphia is in the same/a better situation in the long run than Seattle. You may be wondering: What's the point? Why have you done this, are you a 76ers homeboy or something?

Okay, here it is:

If Sam Presti has done such a great job with Seattle, than why in the HELL was Billy King, who's lead Philly through thick and thin and set them up nicely for the future, fired?

Locks of the Week: Week 10

Locks in a minute, but there's some major baseball to discuss. First of all, somehow my man C.C. Sabathia was able to steal the AL Cy Young from Josh Beckett. Not sure how that happened, not even I would have voted for Sabathia over Beckett, but I'm happy for the guy none the less. Another congrats to Eric Wedge, AL Manager of the Year.

What's going on with George Steinbrenner? Has he finally gone soft? We were already to kiss A-Rod's New York career goodbye, and now he's back in the Bronx. Though he's the richest man in sports history, I think he'll regret the decision in a few years, there's only so much of Yankee fandom (or criticism really) that one can take.

And, in case you haven't heard, Barry Bonds was indicted the other day. I've made my stance known, but I'll say it again. I hope they drop the hammer on this guy.And it's not just him. I feel the same for a lot of other guys, like Clemons and McGwire. Maybe people wouldn't feel this way if the guy wasn't such a jerk. It's all over now Barry Bondzilla.

At last, the end of an era

OK, Now for locks.

My locks for last week was for Notre Dame to go against the spread or something like that, I don't really recall it (or do I want to). But I do remember my pick of Dallas to cover against the New York Ginats, which was a success. For this week, I got West Virginia (-6.5) against the Cincinnati Bearkats, and in the NFL, the Chicago Bears (+5.5) to suprise against the Seattle Seahawks.

Grossman is back in the saddle again for Chicago.

Zorgon had Tulsa in a masterlock against the University of Houston, and Buffalo, who successfully covered against the Miami Dolphins. For this week he had Arizona (+12) against the spread vs Oregon, a pick that proved promising for Zorgon last night. In the NFL, he has Cleveland (-3) covering against Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens.

Almost as good a pick as whoever had the "over" on the over/under in this game.

Frost's picks for last week were Virgina over Miami (win) and Chicago over Oakland (also a win). This week, he hopes to make up some more ground with Tennessee (-12) to cover vs Vandy, and Cincinnati (-3) to cover against the Cardinals.

I wouldn't like this pick if Jay Cutler will still the QB for the Commodores

Notes on Anti-Clutchness, and the Difference Between Richardson and Azubuike

So, you like Azubuike, eh? The exact same as JRich? The 3s, the athletic dunks, the passion....they're all there! So, what, exactly, is the difference between the two?
JRich would've severely helped us out in the clutch tonight.

Azubuike still hasn't found that ability, and he plays almost as bad as Monta. We can;t rely on only one clutch guy (Baron) if we want to win games.

What most people don't realize is that we've had very few blowouts. We always make it close, and clutch players last year really helped us out of the hole. I mean, if you want me to be honest, I think the old Montgomery team had more clutchness than we do right now. (I know I made a comment in the game thread contrary to this above, but I was meaning that we are a decent 3rd Qtr team, whereas the Montgomery era team was TERRIBLE in the third.)

So, someone needs to step up. And most people think that person will be Stephen Jackson.
Well, I do agree that he's more of a clutch player than we have in our lineup right now, but the man is by no means Jason Richardson or Baron-esque. He can put in what he needs, but he'll never have that "big shot" ability that Baron and JRich have to put it in when it really matters with less than 2 minutes to go in the 4th.

Now don't go telling me that this gradual losing of our lead was stoppable. The Pistons are the most experienced team in the NBA, they've played with each other for a long time, and Sheed was simply in FIYAH. The best you can do is try to slow it down as much as you can.

And don't go telling me about freethrows either. The Warriors WILL miss their freethrows. It's a fact of life. The Warriors hitting their freethrows are about as likely as Jim Barnett not telling you to go for the 2 for 1 or feed the hot hand. Jrich missed his freethrows, too. So, NEVER AGAIN shall anyone say that FreeThrows are a factor. If they go in, it's a miracle. I'll be happy with 5%. Anything else is a bonus. Just count them as lost points, and anything else is a bonus. That's how I look at it.

So, in closing, if Stephen Jackson can't some in and step it up to be the "2nd Clutch Man" to Baron (assuming noone else steps up) I predict we will get 25 wins.

So, how do we solve this problem?

Trade for Adonal Foyle. The dude is getting very inconsistent minutes from Coach Stan Van Gundy. Pat garrity is playing out of his mind, and Adonal has a very little role on the team, especially when Tony Battie comes back.

So, Adonal looks to step into our team and average around 292 points. During a game against Houston last year, in less than a minute, he had 4 points. Assuming he can keep this production up throughout the season, he will help us easily soar past opponents.

Defense? For the 4 minutes he was in against the Cavaliers tonight, Zyundras Ilgauskas didn't score a lick. Assuming he can keep up this production, opposing Centers will average no stats.
Accuracy? In his 10 year career, he has a 100% FG percentage for all of the NBA Playoffs.

Lastly: Athleticism?
Dude's got legs.

So, why not pick up a Hall of Fame center who should be extremely easy to trade for?

There is no confusion, Adonal Foyle is the solution.

Status Update

Where are we? Why only locks of the week?

A Few Reasons:

Over the last couple weeks, we've either been swamped with school work or sick with some sort of disease.

Adonal, simply put, is doing terrible. (Or, as Charles Barkely would say, trrbl.) He's getting surpassed by Pat Garrity day in and day out, he usually gets a block and a couple of rebounds. The offense that has been "perculating within him all of these years" and showed such great promise in the Pre-Season has been nonexistant. It's basically a sit and wait game.

The Warriors have performed equally as well. 0-5, and I REALLY don't want to get on here and say, "Freethrows Lolz". I've come to accept about 5% freethrows made. Anything else is a bonus.

The NFL and NCAA Football have taken a backseat due to basketball season starting. I'll try to readjust my focus a bit. Especially with the Browns doing so well.

So, in closing....yeah, we need to update more.

Locks of the Week: Week 9

Yes I know what you're saying. A locks of the week segment, ON TIME! I admit, I've been as punctual as a pig to the slaughter house, but yes, for this week, I am on time.

I am still in the lead, and I have to admit, it's getting a little lonely at the top, especially after last weeks very sharp 2-0. For this week, I have Notre Dame (+3) against the spread vs Air Force. Navy got lucky last week and ND wants revenge against the military. My pro lock is for Dallas (-1) to cover against the New York Football Giants.

There's still some pride left in the sign

Zorgon went 1-1 last week. For this week, he has Tulsa (-1) covering against Houston for his college lock. In the NFL, he has Buffalo (-3) covering against the Miami Dolphins, who can't win no matter what country they play in.

Tough times in Miami, especially watching their undefeated record crumble.

Frost had another tough week, watching his picks go 0-1-1 last week. He hopes to rebound and get back in the hunt by picking Virgina (+3.5) against the spread vs Miami in the last home game for the hurricanes ever. Not so sure about this pick, but we'll see. His pro pick is for Chicago (-3) to cover against Oakland.

Locks of the Week: Week 8

Football season is around halfway done. I think it's been a good season so far. This has to be one of the most exciting years for college football. Never so many upsets, never so much confusion about the Heisman winner. And in the NFL, we've got the regular season game of the century coming up. Has there been a more tense rivalry in the past few years than this? But more on that later. Now, the locks.

For this week, Zorgon has Oregon State (+15) against the University of Southern California. It was a monumental upset last year, and Zorgon hopes for the same this season. He also has Green Bay (+2) against the spread versus a very physical defense in the Kansas City Chiefs.

Frost's locks for this week are Oklahoma State (+3) against the spread vs Texas. Texas has been struggling this season, despite being number 15 in the nation. That should be an interesting game. His pro lock is for the Patriots (-5.5) to cover against the the Colts in that game of the century I was talking about.

And last but not least, there's me. For this week I got Texas Tech to cover (-21) against the Baylor Bears. And for my pro lock, I'm going head to head aginst Jason Frost. That's right, I've got the Colts. Crazy you say? Not so fast my friend. The tide has turned in this rivalry. Peyton has their number now. Expect the unexpected my friend, expect the unexpected.

If Lee Corso picked pro games, I'm sure he'd pick Indy.

Quick Notes on Adonal: Magic vs. Bucks, Halloween 2007

Adonal had a good game, for playing in the last minutes of a blowout

After all the passion Adonal is shown, I'm *VERY* disappointed that he's been relegated to garbage minutes, especially on a team so thin on bigs. IF you look at the stats, Adonal got just as many rebounds in half the time of Rashard Lewis.

Of course, I could be just bitter, and Adonal is kind of on a "schedule" to play the 1st and 4th Quarters, and the 4th happened to be a blow out. Oh well.

Reguardless, Adonal proved the critics wrong in this game. 6 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks in 17 minutes? THIS is what you should expect AT LEAST from Adonal from now on. He played the same incredible defense that he has done throughout the years, he was inhaling the rebounds (something he used to not do) and EVEN had a bit of an offenseive game. His shooting percentage may have been bad, but it was obvious the ghost of Emperor Nelson was haunting him. I can assure you that none of them looked like Adonalmaos videos though, and he DID show signs of improvement on offense. As in, going to be an All-Star signs of improvement. As in, #1 on the All-time scoring list signs of improvement.

Also: Atma, I have not forgetten about the video I was going to make showcasing Adonals strengths to you. It's gonna happen!!!!

Take into account Adonals pick setting and sheer energy and you have one (almost) complete player.

Season Openers in Review

Portland vs. San Antonio

Try as he might, he could not take down the giant. And then John Elway threw it 98 yards.

You've simply got to love the effort the Blazers put forward. They stayed with the Spurs all game, and that's with Frye and Roy pretty much underperforming. Pryzabilla, Aldridge, and Webster were BEASTS. If they could've gotten a couple more guys to have decent nights, I daresay the Blazers might've won. Oh, I have a feeling Channing Frye will have a minimal role this season....

The Big Blazers Q is: Will they be just as good with Oden?

It's possible that he might even drag them DOWN a bit. However, they just have to go along like this is their roster, and they're sticking to it.

As for the Spurs....Blah. Bruce Bowen had a terrible game.

Utah vs. Golden State

Blowout? Is Baron hurt? Is Golden State in Trouble? The answer is no.

They simply need to figure out their optimal lineups. For example, Nelson insisted on playing Troy Hudson and Matt Barnes the whole game, even though they played like trash. It was so ugly, they almost reminded me of Dunleavy on his bad days. Now, Barnes is proven, but if Hudson can't get himself in gear within the next few games, he should have no problem benching him in lieu of Bellinelli.

You also have to take into fact that Stephen JAckson wasn't there. Not THAT major, but a hit nonetheless.

Croshere- Solution to the Warriors rebounding problem. This guy needs to PLAY!

Azubuike did well in the first, but he needs to create mroe for himself and try not to fizzle out.

NO BLAME shall touch Pietrus. He performed better than a lot of the team.

As for the Jazz? Well, lets just say they don't miss Derek Fisher. Giricek was....playing defense. It was scary. Harpring was seldom used. Only guy who had a bad game was Okur. Look out for this team.

Houston vs. Los Angeles Lakers

Might as well do that all season, Kobe.

It's total BULLSHIT that the Rockets aren't playing Steve Francis. The Rocekts complain they have crap for PG, they get a potential All-Star PG, and they BENCH him? Worse yet, don't let him play a SINGLE MINUTE?! Why even sign him? Honestly, if they do that, get ready for another 45 win year, Houston. You're obviously not ready to take the next step.

NO WAY this game should've been close. Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming did everything for Houston, and Mike James did a little. And agian Houston fails. IF you really wanted to improve, why not tryout more Luis Scola? It's not like Hayes is...doing much at all, really.

Also, Scola should have made better use of his 9 minutes.

The Lakers? What a sad sack of a team. Looking at the box score, it's OBVIOUS one person did all of the work. Fisher shot a few 3s. Now when almost a 6th man steps into another team and immediately becomes a 2nd or 3rd scoring option (when Odom comes back) you know that there's something wrong with that team.

Walton, however mediocre his game was, did pull it out in the clutch though. I have to give him props.

Honestly, without Kobe, this team IS trash. Trashy Trash. But Mr.Ballhogging pig just forces them to be semi-competetive with an underperforming Rockets team. Please, Lakers. No more. It will only take you 1 season or so to rebuild, you're LA!

Or, on second thought, keep him. It would be better if he didn't ruin any other teams.

Locks of the Week: Week 7

Sorry about the delay. I was away all weekend. That being said, I'll get right to the point...

My locks for the past week were Florida State to cover against Duke, which they did by one. The other one was for Indy to cover against Carolina, and they did that as well.

Zorgon selected Boston College against the spread vs Virginia Tech in the luck lock of the year. It took an onside kick and "The Hail Mary II" for his prediction to come true. Matt Ryan locked up the stiff arm trophy in his worst game of the year. Regardless, Zorgon's pro lock was for Cleveland to cover against the winless Rams, a prediction that proved accurate.

Frost's lock were that of Virginia to cover against the Wolfpack of North Carolina State. This lock failed but just barely. His pro lock was Green Bay against the spread vs Denver, a game I'd like not to talk about right now.

New Studio Team for ESPN?

So, ESPN is (apparently) going to go with Stuart Scott, Bill Walton, and Stephen A. Smith for their studio show throughout the year.

On Stuart Scott: The dude doesn't really put out that many opinions, he really just hosts and interviews. As far as that goes, he's decent. However, I get the feeling that this guy is a real asshole off stage. For example, when watching "Stump the Schwab" on ESPN Classic, he said "Oh (insert guys name here)" and the guy said "I can show you how to rock the tie after the show!" and Scott said, "Looks like you'll have to rock that tie right out of here!" First impressions leave big marks, and I don't think he's a nice guy. Not to mention that in interviews he really just wants to get ESPNs point across, which usually involves questions like, "How did you FEEL about getting drafted this early? Are you proud? I've heard you like cooking! How does it feel like getting down 22 at the half?" It usually gets dumb responses like, "Uhhhh, I feel Great! I'm very proud of myself. My mom feels great about this, she's so proud! Man, I'm so depressed about it. Looks like we'll have to work harder in the second half!" So, overall he gets a 8/10.

On Bill Walton: The dude is not as good as Tom Tolbert, but he's decent. He knows his stuff. I saw him walk past me at a Hornets game once (Opening Night, 2004). Dude is tall. He looked busy though, so I didn't bother him. Overall 6/10

On Stephen A. Smith: Loudmouthed idiot. In the 2006 NBA Draft, he was like, "Why are we spending all of this time talking about the Portland Trail Blazers! Noone cares what they're doing, they suck!" The crowd then proceeded to chant "Stephen A.!" In the 2007 draft, he complimented the TrailBlazers, saying they made great moves and will be an excellent team in a few years. This really explains it all. If the dude wanted to be a preacher, he would be a good one. I say this because he has excellent speech type and inflection. He can say nonsense so effectively that most people will believe it. In reality, what he says is mostly hot air....and kelp. Overall 2.5/10.

(Statement on preachers wasn't a bash on anything, just emphasizing how a good preacher must have good speech inflections.)

So, the combo gets a 5/10 overall, but really, I wasn't expecting anything different.

To have something to compare it to, I'll rate the TNT analysts:

Ernie Johnson- The dude is a veteran of sports hoasting. In fact, he is an example of what all sports hoasts should strive for. He knows his stuff, he asks relevent questions, he steps into the debate when need be, and yet doesn't jam his foot in when he doesn't need to. MEanwhile, he's part of a legendary broadcasting trio which he is very comfortable with. 10/10

Kenny Smith- Probobly the weakest part of the trio. He's a decent analyst, but what makes the show great is his chemistry. He can point out obvious things, but he will never really get in depth. I still enjoy him more than, say, a Bill Walton. 7.5/10

Charles Barkley- Ah, Sir Charles. The name just brings a greath of fresh air to your face, doesn't it? He is a pretty good analysis guy, he just holds large grudges. I mean, I remember him during the Warriors-Mavericks series repeadtedly telling Dirk to "take the small mans ass down to the block and punish him". However, once the series started, his statements were overblown, and he ragged on Oakland, he simply would not give up his quest, due to his pride. He couldn't admit saying the Warriors had the advantage calling the series a "National Travesty". However, this simply adds to the fun and makes the show pure comedy gold that you'll never get on ABC or ESPN. 7/10

Overall, the studio gets a 9/10.

But how then, Zorgon, could ESPN/ABC improve their studio show to be like TNTs? Well, here's how:

Bring up some people from NBATV.

Andre Aldridge is an excellent host, rivaling Ernie Johnsons ability. He shows the ability to do EXCELLENT interviews (Watch some of his Hall of Fame stories, or the interview hie did with Bill Russell during the 2005 Playoffs). He also has his own words for highlights when he does the Play-by-Play in some of the replays, and says things like "COAST to COAST" in a memorable way or saying an inside joke such as "He doesn't need to go to camp, he'll bring the camp right to YOU!" (Magic Johnson's DVDs) I really can't think of much of a downside, but I'm pretty biased as I like him too much. 9.5/10

Rick Kamla may throw stats at you and be addicted to Fantasy Basketball, but that also means he REALLY knows his players. A very good thing. 8/10

Fred Carter isn't a guy who will just send out guys to do the research for him, he reaserches himself, and that shows dedication. And yes, I mean every last team. 8.5/10

Alaa Abdelnaby is decent. 7/10

Peter Vescey is just as bad of a bandwaggoner as Steve Kerr. He's also clueless about lower-tier teams. 4/10

Okay, what else could they do?

Improve the music. I am SICK AND TIRED of that damn slow trumpet going "DO-DO, dododododododododo. BOOOM BOOOM" etc. It's just boring. Either compose a good, fast paced song or bring back Roundball Rock. End of story. And NEVER, EVER put in "Running Down a Train" AGAIN! It DOES NOT hype me up for the playoffs!

Improve the presentation. Us folks with 4:3 tube TVs don't appreciate your bottom scorebug. Not all of us are consumerists and just JUMP RIGHT ON THAT HD BANDWAGON! No. I prefer my 16 year old 25 inch tube TV, and it suits me just fine. So stop not letting me see the score!

Do real interviews. Don't ask players "How they feel." Ever. Again. I've already elaborated above.

Don't extend interviews into gameplay. Just because you have Bruce Willis or Jessica Alba on the sideline doesn't mean I want to listen to them say, "Man, Kobes scoring a lot of points." No, no, and thrice no. How about a fourth no? Especially while the GAME is going on! Comeon, guys!

No more asking "the question of death". These usually consist of asking LaDanian Tomlinson how he feels about his coaching change DURING THE CELEBRITY ALL-STAR GAME! Let him have fun, for god sakes! Another good example of asking a College Basketball coach how he feels about So-and-so going to the NBA DURING A COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAME. Let these people relax, and get off of their toes! Jeez!

Okay, I've ranted, I've vented, gotten it all out. So if you're really angry now, go YouTube some old NBA on NBC clips. It does a body good.

Drew Bledsoes Final Farewell to Football

A bit old, but it discusses Drew Bledsoes life after football. Apparently, he's really involed in his community and owns a few business ventures. But, it also reveals some very sad news....

"Bledsoe laughed when asked if he intended to follow in the cleats of Vinny Testaverde, who signed with Carolina last week. A few teams have called, but Bledsoe said no. He likes what he's doing. "

Well, looks like my time as a Drew Bledsoe fan finally may have ended, as the dagger has stricken the tired, old heart of his career.

I can now only hope that he gets bored and comes back as some other have....but I doubt it.

From the times I first played with him in Madden NFL '99, to the time I saw him get injured by the Jets in Week 3, to the time I saw him replace Tom Brady to win the NFC Championship, to the times I saw him sturggling with the Bills, to the time I saw him narrowly miss the playoffs in 2005, and to the time I saw him throw that damning interception against the Giants....you were the loser. You were the underdog. You never won a Super Bowl....but, you were there. And through all of this stress....I enjoyed every bit of it. And you did, too.

Farewell, Drew Bledsoe. It's been a fun ride.

Derek Anderson....your time has come.

Game Notes:

Interesting combo of Rick Kamla and Hubie Brown. I'm really enjoying it. I can't wait until Kamla makes it big.

Pat Garrity seems to be Adonals Anti-Drug. Good shooter, not that great of a defender, doesn't bang much. Reminds me of Austin Croshere or Troy Murphy. I'm worried that they'll opt for him because he's similar to recently injured Tony Battie.

Adonal seems to be shying away from the ball and setting picks. This is also evident in his last 2 games. I think it's more Stan Van Gundy than anything.

Attempted reverse by Adonal was double teamed due to slow passing by a teammate. Sigh....At least he forced a TO on the other side.

Kamla and Hubie Brown say that Adonal will "really help them defensively". A good sign.

Adonal Vs. Big Z. Should be....interesting.

Adonal has a big brain inside of his big head. Also, a team guy. A real loss to the Bay Area community. Not only a fine man, but a true porfessional. They need his size and shotblocking. I could listen to this all day!

Honestly Adonal was looknig much better than Augustine, and Adonal had been in since 7 some minutes to go in the 4th. I'm really psyched for this season. I assume he played so many minutes because Howard wanted rest. However, I feel bad for the China fans who didn't really get to see superstars. Don't worry China, your time will come.

The Celtics-Nets Game today was called at halftime when the ice below the floor started melting. (More Detailed Recap) I read in Sports Illustrated for Kids back in the day that it had happened once before during a 1997 Suns-Celtics game. After further research, I've learned hat it happens every once in a while, and is only some what rare. It still an interesting note, nonetheless, especially people spilling out onto the floor during the post game autograph session.

Locks of the Week: Week 6

OK, there's obviously stuff to be discussed over Locks of the Week, but before I get to that, there are some baseball notes I want to "touch base" with. First off, the Rockies were able to advance to the World Series in beastly fashion. They have not lost since the regular season in an epic game vs the Diamondbacks. This is an historic happening. I was in Colorado right during the trade deadline. Everyone was expecting a blockbuster deal to propel the Rockies into the playoffs. Nothing happened. Woody Paige, in one of his articles in the Denver Post, basically called them a dead duck, or at least not doing enough to save their season. In retrospect, such a claim is laughable. However, this dream almost never happened. They had to participate in a play-in game just to get to the playoffs. Imagine if they had dropped that game. We'd be minus a World Series team. We'd probably talking about what a great story the Diamondbacks season was. But they didn't drop that game. They haven't dropped any playoff game. And considering where they were, this is truly a Cinderella story.

There's a whole lotta drama on the AL side of things. First off, Josh Beckett completely shut down my Cleveland Indians. We finaly know what happens when an unstoppable force (Josh Beckett) meets the immovable object (C.C. Sabathia). Oh well, we got Fausto Carmona on the mound tonight, and I think we'll take the pennant even if it takes a game seven. As fascinating as this is, I have to talk about Joe Torre and the Yankees. I was schocked that they actually offered Joe Torre an offer, not to mention an offer with the kind of potential that one had. So, you can only imagine the kind of shock I had when he turned it down. Why I wonder. He loved that job, or at least he said he did. Was the pressure to much for him? I can see how someone would hate their job if George Steinbrenner was their boss. But still, it was his dream job, or so we thought. He mentioned that the money wasn't enough, but the offer was good enough to make him one of the top 3 if not the top paid manager in all of baseball. Who knows. What I do know is that some team is going to get one heck of a manager and a person in Joe Torre, and I hope he goes somewhere where he can win without Stein Mart and the media breathing down his neck.

You gotta love Si Si

Alright, now for the locks. I've got Penn State (-7) over Indiana for college and Dallas (-9.5) to cover against the Minnesota Vikings. I made this pick despite my love for Adrian Peterson, because I like the matchup so much. Hopefully these picks can help widen my lead.

Zorgon has Baylor (+25) against the spread with Texas and the Dolphins (+17) against the Patriots. Though I'm not sure what the Dolphins pick is all about, perhaps he needs to pull out all the stops in order to take the lead.

Last but not least, Frost had South Florida (-3) last night against Rutgers. Ouch, Jason, not a good start to the week. I never did beleive in South Florida. Let me take this time to laugh. Mwahahahahahaha! Ok, and his pro pick is going against Zorgon, New England to cover (-17) against the Fins.

Foyle's Travels!

Adonal Foyle is making a travel blog for the Orlando Sentinel.

"It's (also) an interesting blend of modernization (growth) with traditionalism (people riding bicycles, scooters in streets, some small shops, people practicing tai chi). It's pretty incredible. There is an incredible juxtaposition between the two. Somehow they have been able to experience modernization and yet still kept a pretty tight lid on the culture and still hold on to their cultural experiences, too. It's a pretty amazing place."

It is pretty fascinating. However, it's obvious that if they had a democratic governement, they wouldn't suddenly become United States #2. I think that as China advances more, it will become more and more evident what the differences between us will be, now that the technology barrir will have been broken down.

He also mentions how they spent a long plane ride (18 hours) together, and how it helped them come closer as a team. All in all, a short but sweet read. Just click on the image to see.

The Logo in Question

I am not a baseball man, but this issue extends across all sports, so I thought I'd address it.

This dude wants to get rid of Chief Wahoo, and makes the case that he looks strikingly similar to Jewish Cariacatures from a Holocost Museum. This is the strongest case I've seen yet for changing the logo.

Ask me a few months ago, and I'd be completely against changing any logos for the sake of not offending minorities. I mean, why don't I, as a white man, take offense to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish logo? Why should we remove it just because of people emotions? Why don't we remove the Grizzlies logo, because I don't like how it portrays Grizzly Bears?

But, ask me now, and I'm a bit more towards the other side. I realise that these things are a part of a sick, twisted history. It's like putting a confederate flag up. But, is it really worth ruining all of this tradition?

You know what? I'm not the expert on this stuff. I really shold've left this post to OkLuschen....I'll ask him to add on to the end later.

One word sums up the domination of one team, one person like no other. Dynasty. It feels so good off the tounge. Just say it. Dynasty. The Oklahoma Sooners of the 40s and 40s, The Steelers of the 70s, The Bulls of the 90s, The Tiger Woods of Today. It may be just a tad premature, but I beleive I am on the verge of such greatness. Yes, your favorite picker has taken the lock of the week lead. Ok, ok, hold your applause. I haven't won yet, though it seems to be just a matter of time.

Yes, okluschen and Tiger have much in common.

Last week I had the genius pick of Auburn to cover against Vanderbilt. What was Vegas thinking? And in the NFL, I had The Jaguars to cover against the Chiefs. Not only did they cover, but they only gave up a shutout with a meaningless Brodie Croyle Hail Mary as time expired. The master locks keep on rollin' this week. I pick, no, I know that LSU (-9) and Glen Dorsey will cover against the Kentucky Fried Wildcats this Saturday. I also know that Tennessee (+3) and Vince Young will make Vegas embarassed this week. Ya, I got them against the spread vs Tampa Bay. Never take sides with a gay quarterback, right TO?

What do you mean TO does things just for attention?

Zorgon picked Tulsa to cover against The University of Texas at El Paso, a game they lost. His pro lock was Green Bay to cover against Chi-Town, another loss. Zorgon hopes to evade such fortunes this week, with his picks of Rice (+20.5) against the spread vs Houston, and in the NFL, New England to cover (-4.5) against The Dallas Cowboys in the game of the week, a game where TO (#81) called out Randy Moss (also #81) in a letter to the media.

Just look at how uncomfortable the media makes him. He hates attention.

And now we got Jason Frost. He picked OU last week, who won the game, but did not cover. However, his New England pick did hold steady. For this week, Illinois (-3.5) is his pick to cover against Iowa. He also picked Washington (+3) against the spread vs. Green Bay. Green Bay has Brett Favre. TO wanted to play with Brett Favre. What a coincidence!

YES! I was able to tie in Terrell Owens yet again!

I CANNOT WAIT for one of these games to be televised, and I REAAAALLLY want to make a mixtap of him soon.

The last night of the WFL

Before reading my post, please refer yourself to my Golden State of Mind Diary, "The Last Night of the ABA".

So, I went to the "real" last time the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets would be in Oklahoma City. If I could describe it in one word....it would be "spooky".

So, I walked in to the Ford Center, and the same attendants were there. A good feeling filled my lungs. I grabbed a program, a towel and slapped Hugo (the Mascot)s' hand. I then walked in to the concourse....and that feeling was gone. I realised that the "program" was a roster and a thank you to sponsors printed in black on a piece of blue construction paper. The towel had this stupid design on it and said "New Orleans Hornets" instead of the good old "Hornets Basketball". The magic was gone.

Program indeed....

I then went to the pizza stand where I used to get pizza, and the sellers had no spunk. My $4 pizza tasted the same, and so did my $3 bottled soda, but it just didn't feel the same.

I sat in my seat, and there was little to no pre-game entertainment. All of the sponsorships were gone. Very little fans were there. The players seemed lackluster.

Fast forwarding to 5 minuse before the game, there was a sudden INFLUX of fans. Like 2000. There were even some crazy Asians who came just to cheer for Yao Ming. In any case, by tipoff we had about 7000 fans. I was disappointed. They had a few videos thanking OKC, and Chris Paul came out and said, "Yeah, we're in New Orleans now, but keep supporting us!" (Yeah, we'll support you like Omaha fans support the Sacramento Kings!!!!)

So, the game started (the announcer kept calling the team New Orleans instead of "Hometown Hornets" like he used to). The Hornets performed like poo. At least Rob Nice was there. They had the same entertainment, but minus the sponsorships. (IE, instead of Super Sonic Seat Upgrade, it was Hornets Seat Upgrade.) Notes on some of the players:

- Peja was definately shaking the rust off. Dude played like poo.

- Adam Haluska should've been MVP. Pretty good at his deep 2s and short 3s, and he kept us in the game.

- At first, Luis Scola was BALLIN, but then faded out a bit. I have high hopes for this d00d, although not as high as the hopes I have for Tiago Splitter. TAU Ceramica will really suck this year.

-Hilton Armstrong was alright. I'll give him another year.

-Steve Francis looks like he might not start. Looks liek they're trying to get him into the flow of the team first.

-Melvin Ely didn't play. I don't think he'll even make the 12 man roster, maybe on IR.

-Where's David Wesley? I didn't see him, I was looknig forward to him.

-A lot of fans were like, "PUT IN MOTUMBO!" Sadly, he didn't play a lick. He laughed at the thought. (The Dudes 41! Like he needs Preseason!)

-Kirk Snyder was cheered for. Nice to see we all remember him.

Yao make Basket!!!!

-Yao dominated. No suprise. The asians were going crazy.

In any case, the first half was pretty bad, with a bit of positive in the 2nd. At the half, attendance was so low that Loud City fans were invited to come on down to the Lower Level. Strangely, some stayed up there.

But then when the comeback started coming on, it felt like old times. All of the old fans (like Brick guy) were there. It was JUST as loud as 19,000 fans. The hornets were making a big comeback, and once they came back, staying with (even ahead of) the Rockets. It was the perfect game. My spirit was uplifted. And even when the game was almost over, and it was pretty assured that the Hornets would win, only about 5 fans left. Everyone else stayed. You could tell that everyone here was the real hardcore fans. It was crazy....you just had to remind yourself not to look up, or the dream would be ruined (empty seats).

So, the game ended, the Hornets won an irrelevant game. I stood for a while, taking it all in. I then left the practically empty stadium to the cold, dark night. I never looked back, knowing that I wouldn't see NBA Basketball again for quite some time. I now know how it was in the last night....of the World Football League.

Locks of the Week: Week 4

It is week 4 of the locks of the week, and here we are, all tied up. Yes, it is quite the log jam. That being said, let there be no delay in the current state of things...

Last week I had New England, who more than covered vs Cincy and Wisconsin, who won (YAY!) but did not cover (NOO!). Regardless, I was still able to tie Frost and Zorgon for the lead. For this week, I have Auburn (-7.5) against Vanderbilt for college and Jacksonville (-2.5) to cover against Kansas City.

Zorgon's locks last week were Syracuse to cover against Miami of Ohio (that was a loss) and Green Bay against Minnesota (a win). To try and take the lead this week he has Green Bay (-3) again against the struggling Chicago Bears and Tulsa (-3) vs the UTEP Miners.

And last but not least, Jason Frost has fallen hard in recent weeks and needs some solid picks to boost him up again. He went with OU again (he's never picked anyone else) and he's got New England (-14.5) to cover against the Cleveland Browns, he hopes to offset his pick of the Jets to cover against Buffalo the week before.

Just a last recap of the standings, it is all tied up; Zorgon, okluschen, and Frost at 3-3. This week will take a big part in the season, both in picks and in the regular season.

Don Nelson, yet again, has pulled some bull right out of his oversized pocket.

Stephen Jackson....captain? The dude has gotten ejected too many times too many times....does anyone realise that he and Baron Davis were about one step from getting themselves suspended, and making the Dallas upset never happen? Does anyone realise that his emotions may have cost us the series against Utah? Does anyone realise that these first 7 games that he misses may cost us the playoffs? Get this crap outta my house! You gotta love his heart, but until he learns to keep his anger in check, he's no captain of mine.

Matt Barnes....captain? Approximately one year ago, he was the un-heard of scrub who came to training camp and barely made the team. He did improve, remarkably, to being a consistent BENCH performer. The dude is lucky to crack the starting lineup when there's injuries! During the playoffs his missed 3s killed the Warriors! I'm sorry, but until this guy can prove himself as a STARTER, let alone CAPTAIN, then he is no captain of mine.

Baron Davis is sensible.

Okay, so you're saying, "Zorgon, who could possibly be better?" Oh, I'll tell you who....

4 Possibilities:

Al Harrington: A dude with all the heart and hustle of JAckson, and NONE of the suspensions. Sure, his talent dipped during the early 'offs, but he brings consistent startability along with experience.

Andris Biedrins: Okay, this dude is young, but we all know he's an example to set. He was what, 4th in Most Improved Player rankings? He may not be the leader, but he gets his boards, gets his points, and it's all business.

Monta Ellis: See above, except that he is even better! The dude is still learning, but it's learning basketball skills, not trying to control your anger when you're over 30 years old. Oh, and: Monta for Dunk Contest! Member #1!

Mikael Pietrus: Okay, he might have the same amount of talent or less than Barnes, but the dudes now one of the longest (maybe THE longest) tenured warrior with the sad departure of Jason Richardson, and the even worse departure of League MVP, Adonal Foyle (who this blog was named after).

Bottom Line: Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes are probobly the 2 worst captains in the National Basketball Association.

Suck it, Don Nelson.

Overall, a very convincing essay. I normally don't agree with this guy, but he makes a great case for not asterisking the ball. IMO, asterisking it is a travesty.

But before this guy goes criticizing Ecko for branding the ball, how about he apologizes for being so cocky at his NBA Live 08 cover unveiling? He acted so selfish, talking the whole time about how great his cover is, when his team was struggling in the playoffs. He gave virtually no support to them, basically saying, "Wait until Super-Gilbert Arenas comes back."

Oh, and don't start talking trash about the TERMINATOR!!!! (Politics aside.) He only has to be the awesomest actor in the world! Terminators 1 and 2 are seriously my favourite movies of all time. So, watch yourself Gilbert!

(For those of you who want to talk to me about Arnolds steroid abuse, don't. I agree that it was bad what he did, but this dude was my childhood hero, so I gotta defend him.)

Of Losing And The Fall Classic

There were just a few things I wanted to get out there today. First of all, all three of my fav football teams losing this weekend. That would be (to those that don't know already) The Oklahoma Sooners, Notre Dame Fightin' Irish, and and Denver Broncos. Yes it was a tough week for me. The Irish I at least knew would suck it up on the gridiron, but it hurt worse to know that it could esaily have been a victory. The major problem for them is, well, everything. No identity on offense, a think defense, very depressing. But don't let the lack of on the field success fool you, Charlie Wies is the still the man. Sure, Ty Willingham was fired for less, but he also did less. 2 BCS bowls, Ty was putting us in the Sun Bowl or whatever, I don't even remember. And don't forget, it was recruiting that was a major factor in Ty getting fired. Sure, he brought in Brady Quinn, Jeff Samardizja, and Maurice Stovall. But, what did he do with those players. Brady Quinn was laughable before Weis. And currently, based on commitments and who you ask, Notre Dame and Charlie have the top ranked recruiting class.

Racism was not the issue in Willingham getting the pink slip.

As for the Sooners and Broncos, both were disapointing as well. The Sooners offense couldn't give the defense a rest in that altitude. Plus, Bob Stoops had a moronic moment in which he didn't bother to use his timeout when the clock was ticking away for Colorado to have a game-winning oppurtunity. At least you'd think he'd try to ice the kicker. The Broncos have another problem. That would be the Run D. They're giving up more than 25 more rushing yards per game than they are earning to the likes of Marshawn Lynch, LaMont Jordan, Maurice Jones-Drew, and Joseph Addai. Sure, Jay Cutler is young and making a few mistakes, but he still has tremendous upside, and really his stastistics are not that bad.

Victory for OU and Nic Harris just out of reach

Now for the MLB playoffs. I still can't get over the Mets. How do you not make the playoffs after leading a division for over 5 months? However, I'm happy for the Philies as they are full of likeable players. Also, the Rockies were able to finish off the Padres in the play-in game last night. That was quite a game, let me tall ya. Helton, Holiday, and Tulowitzki are also likeable players.

That's a game-winner

Looking at the matchups now, the most intriguing first rounder in the AL is Cleveland and New York, for the NL, Cubs and Arizona. If the Yankees were playing anyonw other than the Indians, I'd pick them to win it all. But I gotta stick by my team, so I've got Cleveland winning a thrilling 5-game series. In the World Seires, I've got Boston and the Cubs! Of course, Boston will dominate Chi Town, but that would be a fun series. Alright, can't wait to see what happens, cya.

This, in my opinion, wasn't really an upset, just a case of Memphis being overrated asnd Arkansas State being underrated.

Boise State vs. Southern Miss
Sure, Southern Misses QB got injured, Boise State was dominating before that. They definately aren't at last years glory, but they're definately not going away, either.

West Virginia vs. South Florida

It's the latest dance craze!
I slept from right before this game started to about 9 AM CST. 13 hours. Aren't you proud? But there's no doubt that the announcers were spieling, "Oh, South Florida is a real football team now!" Yeah, it's all been said.

Notre Dame vs. Purdue

Don't take this to be another, "ho hum, Notre Dame should've won" game. Purdue has an extremely expolsive offense, and, coupled with todays upsets, should be a Top 10 team. Notre Dame, meanwhile, needs to start thinking about....winning?

Michigan vs. Northwestern
Michigan was trailing for the majority of the game. So, they still aren't very good. I'd consider them lucky if they got ranked again.

Penn State vs. Illinois
Well, there goes Joe Paternos 78th chance at the NCAA Championship. Poor Knittany Lions. And the upsets continue....

Louisiana State vs. Tulane
Keep in mind this game didn't get out of hand, and at one point the Green Wave came back to be ahead 9-7. So, it's very possible these guys could be crying too.

Akron vs. Connecticut
The Big East has to be the strongest conference in football now. No joke.

Central Michigan vs. Northern Illinois
Congratulations....this game has won the TOILET BOWL OF THE WEEK AWARD!!!!

Central Michigan lost to a 1AA school last week, North Dakota State University.

Northern Illinois only win is at Idaho...who just got blown out by a underporforming Miami. It's losses have been to Iowa, Southern Illinois, and Eastern Michigan.

Baylor vs. Texas A&M
Excluding baseball, Baylor will forever be the scum on the Big 12s foot. Texas A&M looked good....against Baylor.

Props to Kentucky for actuallylooking liek a ranked team out there in this week of upsets and close calls.

Oklahoma vs. Colorado
Congratulations....this game has won the UPSET OF THE WEEK AWARD!!!!

Why?

Oklahoma was the highest ranked to be upset this week. They were killing opponents by 50 points.

Colorado was struggling against teams like Florida State and Arizona State. Their only wins came over Colorado State (by a field goal, no less) and agains a hapless Miami (Ohio) team.

Anyway, the game...I have no way to explain it. I tuned away in the 2nd, figuring OU had it in hand, tuned back in in the 4th and wondered, WTF is going on? A lot of bad breaks for OU, a lot of good breaks for CU. Tha'ts all I have to say....(Oklahoma State and Texas A&M will battle for the lead in the Big 12 South next week. That's sad. The only 2 undefested teams in the Big 12...hail from the North. And they are Kansas and Missouri. Has the universe ended?)

Nebraska vs. Iowa State
This game was too close.

Syracuse vs. Miami (Ohio)
This would've been the Toilet Bowl of the week, except for the fact Syracuse beat Louisville. But....is that even a quality win anymore?

Maryland vs. Rutgers
Not very much an upset, Rutgers was kinda weak, and it was feeible that MAryland could win this game. Still, it was unexpected.

Texas vs. Kansas State
Well, Texas finally shows their true colours....on the exact right week to mask their true weaknesses. I'd predict them in the low 20s or out of the top 25 by the end of the season.

Wisconsin vs. Michigan State
A very solid game lost amidst the upsets.

Oregon vs. California
Welp, the dreams over for Oregon. This team is always ranked high and falls hard. Jsut forget about these quitters forever, please. Meanwhile, Cal will stumble their way into the top 5. That's carrazy.

Hawaii vs. Idaho
Another piece of crap falls into the toilet.

University of Central Los Angeles vs. Oregon State
I think Portland State may be Oregons #1 team this year.

University of Alabama-Birmingham vs. Tulsa
There's no way it should've been this close. Keep your head up, Tulsa!

Texas Tech vs. Northewestern State
75-7? That's insane. Especially for a team coming off a loss to OSU.

Arkansas vs. North Texas
Nope, Arkansas, you don't look very good next to Texas Tech. Better luck next time.

Oklahoma State gets their revenge on Rhett Bomar.

This was close to being the upset of the week, but it was no cigar. At least Aubrun was ranked. However, they were coming off of a bad loss. This seemed more to do with karma than anthing else.

Ohio State vs. Minnesota
I was wrong about Minnesota last week. They just suck. I like their Mustard and Ketchup uniforms, though.

University of Southern California vs. Washington
This was closer than it should've been. Naughty naughty, USC got away lucky. Props to Washington for battling even through they know they're going to finish something like 6-6. I hope that coach can somehow move on to bigger and better things, or even make Washington good.

Congratulations....this game has won GAME YOU SHOULD'VE WATCHED BUT YOU DIDN'T!!!!

This game is a mouthful, eh? It was really down to the wire, with APB (who is 1-3 in 1-AA play) almost pulling off the upset and staying cometetive all game. New Mexico barely pulled it off in the end with a field goal. Too bad it wasn't on television! (It's playing on FSN Arizona at 1:30 PM CST on Monday, if you're bored/sick.)

Louisiana Tech vs. Fresno State
Probobly the 3rd worst matchup of the week. Louisiana Techs unis look like they're out of the late 80s. Much props. Now that I think of it, Fresnos unis kind of look like that too! It was an All-80s bowl!

Arizona State vs. Stanford
The Christmas Trees are about as good as "the next John Elway" who is starting at QB for the Denver Broncos right now....

The man who this blog was named after, Adonal Foyle, has some exciting news in his midst!

His main cometition for minutes on the Orlando Magic, Tony Battie, has torn his rotator cuff and can be expected to be out for the season!!!!

However, the challenge is not done. The Magic are expected to start this lineup:

PG- Jameer Nelson
SG- Hedo Turgkolu/Trevor Ariza
SF- Hedo Turgkolu/Trevor Ariza
PF- Rashard Lewis
C- Dwight Howard

First of all, this lineup is for foos. Putting Travor Ariza (a lowdown banger defender, who is bigger than PF David West) at SG is just a terrible move. Turgkolu miiiight work there, but he is also generally too big.

Not to mention, Lewis at PF? Imagine him pulling down 5 boards a game. I'm imagining the 05-06 Golden State Warriors WITHOUT Troy Murphy. A scary thought.

Next of all, putting Adonal in only makes sense. Could you imagine going into the paint and trying to contend with Adonal AND Dwight? That's like trying to make a freethrow blindfolded when a mascot is standing on top of a ladder right in front of the hoop. You're just not going to score.

And even IF the Magic decide to be stupid, who's going to take away his minutes? Pat Garrity and James Augustine? Don't make me laugh.

Bottom Zorgon Line: Adonal is a LOCK for MVP this year. First Triple-Double since Oscar Robertson!!!!

Bottom Line: Look for 20-30 minute games from the good ol' Carribean Cataclysm. Look for him to go back to his old numbers of about 7points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game.

Sub-Note: No hard feelings towards Tony Battie. I'm just a blind follower of the greatness that is Adonal Foyle.

Chris Webber to Europe?

Yeah, this is a basketball blog, too. In latest news, Olmypiakos (The Euroleague equivalent of the New York Yankees) are reportedly offering Chris Webber 10-12 Million over 2 years.

Needless to say, he'll never get this kind of money from an NBA team, nor this amunt of playing time. However, I'm not really sure if he's all too excited about living in Athens when he finally got to play in his hometown in Detroit last year. Nevertheless, money talks.

Bottom Line: Home and an NBA Championship is more important than money to Chris Webber. If he gets an offer from an upper-tier NBA team, he'll take it over Olympiakoses offer. But if his only offer is from the Atlanta Hawks, then look for him to wigg out to Europe.

This is just another step in the line of steps that Euroleague is taking to become the NBA. 2020, and who knows? First round draft picks may just be opting to play for Olympiakos.

Locks of the Week, Week 3

OK, it's time for locks of the week again. But before I get to that, I have to defend my boy Jay Cutler, who's not gettin' any love here at adonal obsessed so far. Yeah, we're 2-1 with two thrilling games that Jason Elam had to win for us vs sub par teams. Yeah, Jay Cutler has a 3-4 TD to Int ratio. However, according to cbs.sportsline's NFL player ranker, he is the 9th QB in the league right now. And hey, Jaws said that he was the next Brett Favre. Brett Favre, man!

OK, now back to locks of the week. As I promised, 2-0 last week. Please, please, hold your applause. My picks of Baylor and Carolina were strokes of genius I must admit. This brings my record to 2-2 on the year, and it'll be 4-2 after this week. Speaking of this week, my picks are New England to cover (-7) vs Cincinnati on Monday night, and Wisconsin (-7.5) to cover against an over rated Michigan State team.

Now for Zorgon. Tough week he had, he took Rice in the points (they got killed) and the Browns over the Raiders (they got timeouted). Though he was able to win this game lock wise, he must have been heart broken for his Browns. He looks for redemption this week, with Syracuse (-2) to cover against Miami of Ohio of America of Earth as well as Green Bay (-1.5) to cover against Minnesota. Not bad Zorgon, not bad, but that bad Jay Cutler karma is out to get you. Zorgon's record is 2-2.

Last but not least, there's Jason Frost. 1-1 last week, man. I'm sorry, that Cincinnati game does not count a win. 3 points does not = 3.5 points. His other game, OU (what a suprise) was able to cover vs Tulsa however, putting his overall reord at 3-1. For this week, he's got the New York Jets (-3) to cover against the Bills, and OU (-22.5) to cover against Colorado (what a suprise).

Jake Delhomme Out, David Carr in

It looks like another Quarterback change is afoot in Carolina, as David Carr is getting his 2nd (and probobly final) shot at proving he is an NFL QB.

Okay, the real reason for the change is an injury, but this may be a blessing in disguise for the Panthers. Jake Delhomme, while solid at times, has never been a big-time QB. If he didn't have Steve Smith, he'd be about the skill equivalent of a Kelly Holcomb or Gus Frerotte.

David Carr, on the other hand, is unproven. Many say that problems in Houston were not his fault. Their team was flat out atrocious until this season. Nevertheless, Schaub stpes in and the team is "magically" 2-1. So, was it the improvement of the team, or the QB? Carolina fans better hope it was the team.

But, it remains to be seen if David Carr can function at the also-subpar Carolina Panthers. Their 2-1 record should not fool you. Their wins have come over a vastly underachieving St.Louis team and a hapless Atlanta. They have lost to the Texans (no surprise). So, one all is said and done, they should be shooting for about a 8-8, and that's in the NFC.

What to expect: David Carr has an average game, and the Panthers put back in Delhomme. Carr might be the guy you want at backup QB, but if you put him as a starter, it's no secret he'd be in the bottom 8.

Grossman Out, Griese In

Well, it's about time. Rex Grossman has finally been cut from the starting QB job, and relgated to his proper role: being a backup. Will Griese lead Chicago to greatness? That reamins to be seen. He's always been a mediocre-type QB....back in Denver, he did pretty bad in their post Supr Bowl years. Meanwhile, in Tampa Bay, he's gone to the playoffs, but most say that's moreso due to the defense.

I'd say its DEFINATELY an improvement, kind of like a Trent Dilfer to just be in there to not screw things up. But his only semi-goodness could hurt them if they get in a shootout with Brett Favre or the like.

Final Ruling: NFC Championship maybe, but no Super Bowl.

They need to get someone better (Drew Bledsoe) if they really want to shine, and the injuries to the defense are really piling up.

NCAA Football, NFL Week 3

I'm late, but things get busy. Here goes:

NCAA Football:

Texas A&M vs. Miami

Texas A&M looked like poop on a stick. Miami simply had all of the energy, all of the game. And, unlike Notre Dame, McGee is A&Ms problem. He looked terrible and played terrible. Then, late in the game, they had another guy come out (Johnson?). He was very highly recruited and was 6'6". The one TD pass that he threw looked AMAZING. Next Steve McNair? Time will tell.

Oklahoma vs. Tulsa

Well, Tulsa did about as well you could expect them to. They played their hearts out in front of a neutral stadium, and got beat down. But noone can blame them. Oklahoma, meanwhile, needs to work on adapting to foreign envrionments, as Tulsa was half OU fans and they started off pretty sluggish.

Kent State vs. Akron

I called into a radio show last Tuesday. I had to make 3 picks for the upcoming week of football, and since I didn't know any matchups at the time, 3 names rang out of my head. They were Akron, Northwestern, and Tulsa, all against the spread. Well, at least Akron won. Also, Akron did a good job this game of not losing their energy early on, as they've done in games past.

Temple vs. Bowling Green

Temple, while improved, still sucks.

Syracuse vs. Louisville

This game was easily predictable. Lousiville is massively overrated coming off of a loss. You could just smell the upset in the air.

North Carolina vs. South Florida
South Florida will have a chance for itself to enter college football significance this Friday when they face West Virginia.

Georgia Tech vs. Virginia
I watched this game, but I didn't really get much to interpret from it. Both of the teams were very equally matched, and it was mere luck that either team should have won. (Boy, I really need to start writing these recaps on time.) Oh, and I hope the Tech guy who got injured is ok.

Florida vs. Ole Miss
I think this says a lot more about how good Ole Miss is than it says about how bad Florida is. But I didn't watch it, so I don't know.

Nebraska vs. Ball State
Big 12 Su-ucks! *Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap* The only 3 schools that have any real chance of greatness are Oklahoma, Texas, and Missouri. Oklahoma will trounce Texas in a couple weeks, and Missouri....well, they're bound to screw up. Good Job at proving how last week wasn't a fluke, Nebraska! You've once again cheated yourself out of being ranked with the elite. Nebraska: Rebuilding Since '00.

Colorado vs. Miami
Don't EVER bet on Miami. Ohio, that is. Right now, they'ed dropped from bowl status to almost AA status. Letting Colorado, whose offense was so bad last week that they HAD to use shotgun every time dropping 42 on you? Ugh.

Notre Dame vs. Michigan State
No real surprise here. Notre Dame is in...the Florida State range in talent I'd say. But can we stop talking about them?

Northwestern vs. Ohio State
Damn you Northwestern!!!!

Memphis vs. UCF
I might've been wrong about UCF last week. They might actually be good.

North Dakota State vs. Central Michigan
This game is an example of how AA is moving closer and closer to 1-A. You start seeing the more major AA teams beating the 1-A teams. It's nice to see less of a divide.

Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma State
This was a nice game to watch, but the sad truth is that at best these teams are making 7-5. Nevertheless, DON'T hesitate to watch something like this just because the teams suck. Better than watching a Notre Dame-Michigan State grindfest.

Colorado State vs. Houston
For some reason, I decided to watch this game. Big mistake. It was soo BORING!!!! These teams were both so inept at everything it wasn't even funny. Not to mention how bad their uniforms were....

Rice vs. Texas
Well, my Rice "Dark Horse" pick wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I give Texas credit, they may be better than I thought. Still not as good as OU, though. They barely beat UCF, and UCF is comparable to Tulsa, who was crushed by Oklahoma. Just sayin'.

Georgia vs. Alabama
I really don't have anything to say about this one. I just don't want any complaints about how I didn't include a big matchup. (Must remember to write earlier!)

SMU vs. TCU
This game broke down towards almost thuggery towards the end. It was almost over, but since these schools are apparently "fierce rivals", there was a lot of extra pushing and shoving. If football had 5 quarters, we'd be hearing about the huge SMU-TCU brawl right now, instead of "I'm 40! I'm a man! Come attack me!"

Maryland vs. Wake Forest
At the beginning of the game, the announcer called this one, "Wake Forest vs. NC State". Mmmmhmmm. Wake Forest showed tremendous poise and school spirit during this game. It was so crazy, you never wanted it to end. Maryland was almost too conservative, and was practically waiting for Wake to take it from them.

Purdue vs. Minnesota
Everything just seemed to be going wrong for Minnesota. Dropped fumbles, missed redzone opportunities, the whole bit. Don't count this game to Purdues greatness, but massive unluck on Minnesotas side. They did play a nice second half, though.

Oregon vs. Stanford
I would've been #1 in Ballhype picking had Stanford won. But nooo, Stanford had to screw up their lead just like Washington and Oregon State. Thanks, guys.

Washington vs. UCLA
I simply can't remember this game. I watched about half of it, but now it's all mixed in. I need to write earlier.

Utah vs. UNLV

"Let me see - UCLA loses 44-6 to Utah, who loses 27-0 to UNLV. So... would UNLV beat UCLA 71-6?"

NFL Week 3:

Cardinals vs. Ravens

This game was close, as it should be. It shows how good the AFC West "Group of Death" is doing, and just how poor the NFC is getting.

San Diego vs. Green Bay

Green Bay put together a marvelous performance to overtake an overrated Chargers team with an overrated QB. Brett Favre looked like a stubborn old man sometimes, passing to get into the endzone for his TD and praying the run wouldn't work. Nonetheless, aside from his deparation moments, there's no other man I'd like at QB when I'm losing by 6 with 1:36 to go in the 4th. Green Bay is my NFC Super Bowl pick (for now).

Indianapolis vs. Houston
This game does make a statement about how far Houston has gotten, but it also makes a statement about how the rest of the NFL has caught up to the Colts. Along with the Titans scare last week, this proves how almost everybody is becoming a threat to them, and their perfect season is NOT going to happen this year. They'll make the playoffs, but they won't lockup the 1 seed in Week 13.

Minnesota vs. Kansas City
A lot of people are saying how the mascot energized the team to win. I'd probobly agree with them, simply because Minnesota's only weapon is Adrian Peterson. Get rid of Tavaris Jackson, and bring in a real QB (Drew Bledsoe) please.

Buffalo vs. New England
Buffalo is as bad as ever (8-8 over my dead body) and New England is better than ever. I miss Drew Bledsoe.

Miami vs. New York Jets
A very heated battle between borderline playoff teams. However, I think that in the end they'll both fall short in such a tough AFC.

Detroit vs. Philadelphia
Only reason Philadelphia won: Awesome 1930's throw back uniforms they picked up out of the World Football Leagues trash! They should wear them every game. I love them. Seriously.

Pittsburgh vs. San Francisco
This game helps prove:
A) The Browns are no joke.
B) The 49ers are not a Super Bowl team yet.
C) The Steelers are looking like best in the AFC right now.
D) Bill Cowher may be at his CBS desk longer than you think.

St. Louis vs. Tampa Bay
A lot of people thought that this would be the Rams "big return" year, but so far they've failed to deliver. Meanwhile, the Bucs are again pulling their "smoke and mirrors" tactic to pretend like they're a good team when in actuality they just have an easy schedule. Don't be surprised if they take the NFC South crown out of luck.

Jacksonville vs. Denver

I hope he got sacked....

Get rid of Jay Cutler! If you had anyone else at the Denver reigns, they'd have won this game, and not have had to rely on the greatest kicker in the NFL (Elam) to win their previous 2 games. He is in the bottom 5 of league QBs, and simply hampering the Broncos progress.

Cleveland vs. Oakland

I can count all of Brady Quinns sideline facial expressions with one finger.

The NFL REALLY needs to get rid of this calling timeouts before the snap BS before it speads like a disease. Props to Warren Sapp for blocking that FG.

Cincinnati vs. Seattle
2 teams that have very questionable futures. Seattle was great in 05, but kind of sropped off in 06. Cincy lost to the Browns last week. I'd say Seattle has the better future, because every player on their roster is just all-around solid with few weaknesses. They're just not great.

Carolina vs. Atlanta

Toilet Bowl of the Week! Both of these teams need better QBs (Drew Bledsoe). Both of them will not make the playoffs. Atlanta might go 0-16. Yay!

New York Giants vs. Washington
Nice job by New York to prove that they can survive without Tiki.

Dallas vs. Chicago

Business.

Okay, everyones said it: Get Grossman out. Either put in Griese or find a fantabulous Free Agent QB (Drew Bledsoe).

Tennessee vs. New Orleans

Dude, it's not college anymore. Stop posing for the Heisman.

I'm still not sold on the Titans. Don't ask me why, because I don't know either. Meanwhile, Drew Brees is.....oh what the hell, you know I have to say it! The Saints need a great QB (Drew Bledsoe). (No, I'm kidding. Brees is fine, but they need to find out what's wrong.

She does say a lot of insulting off the field things about the QB, and says that the coaching staffs mind was basically made up that he wouldn't start because of his attitude. She does mention, several times, that he was hand-fed chicken by his mother, and that says everything about his attitude.

So, I do believe Mike Gundy was somewhat in the right. But, the QB should NOT have to have chicken hand fed to him, if it truely did happen.

Baseball is still America's past time. I know, I know, some of you probably just threw up a little, some of you may be laughing your heads off, but I am one of the few that are still on the bandwagon. I think you have to look at the definition of pastime in a different way. Do much more fans watch football than baseball? Yes. Is basketball more exciting than baseball? Yes. There is no player as colorful as Chad Johnson, as cool as Shaquille O'Neal, no owner like Mark Cuban.

Yes, there is no man like Chad Johnson

But who in those other sports has a coach with the fire of Ozzie Guillen? You can catch a homerun, that if historical enough, can change your life in baseball! You catch a missed field goal ball, the usher comes to get it back. If theres a fight in the NBA, it's a national emergency. A fight in baseball is part of the unwritten rules of the game.

Moreover, baseball gives back like no other sport. Chances are, wherever you are in America, you're in driving distance of at least a minor league baseball game. No such luck with football or basketball in a place like Idaho. Cleveland public schools were facing a financial crisis, in which all sports were being threatened to be suspended for a year. But then the Cleveland Indians stepped in, giving enough money and then some for baseball to continue. The Browns and Caviliers followed after, but only after the example was set by baseball. In that respect, baseball in still America's past-time. It may not be the favortie sport, those dies died long ago. But the game, for now at least, is still America's way to pass the time. That being said, let's look at the MLB by division:

AL WEST: The Seattle Marineers looked like they were going to be the story of the year, but just had too much space between them and the Angels and couldn't out-do the surging Yankees. Angels lock this one up, but regardless, my congrats to Seattle.

AL CENTRAL: Ah, yes, my Indinas finally back in prominence. This division is full of mysteries. What happened to Detroit, to Minnesota, to the White Sox! The White Sox, man! I've never seen a team so talented be so bad. The Indians have got this division by a stranglehold.

AL EAST: It looked like the Red Sox were going to walk away with this division but are now only 2.5 games up. I never gave up on the Yankees all year just so you know. The Sox will win this division but Yankees, will be in the Series. Thats right, I said it.

Yeah, they've got problems

NL WEST: The NL West is where it's at. Arizona and San Diego only seperated by a game, with Colorado still lurking. My heart says the Diamondbacks, but somehow I know the Padres will pull away in the end. At least the Diamondbacks still have wildcard hopes. Also, Matt Holiday is the most under rated player out there right now. He's going to be really, really good. By the way, it's Barry Bonds last year with San Francisco. Who knew? Who cares?

NL CENTRAL: The toilet division. I'm torn between ChiTown and BrewCity. I like the Prince, but I think the Cubs will pull this one out.

NL EAST: What happened to the Mets? One of the biggest suprises of the season. Though I tend to cheer for Philly to do well, I still think the Mets can hold on to that lead, though the Phillies are my dark horse wildcard pick.

'Sup, okluschen is here. I'm the newest member of this blog. I'm here in good ol' OKC to, where I raise my cows and chicken with Charles Barkley. I like all sports excluding hockey and NASCAR and any other sport like Noridc Shovel Racing. My main focus is collegiate sports, but as I said earlier, I'm well versed in the world of athletics. My main teams are the:

Oklahoma Sooners, Notre Dame football, Gonzaga basketball, the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Indians, and Colorado Crush (kinda). I have no NBA team right now, but my favorite players are KG, Adam Morrison, and Ben Wallace. I also like Angel Cabrera and Vijay on the PGA tour, and JA Adande in the sport of competitive banter.

Randy Moss was a beast last week vs San Diego; 8 catches, 2 TDs

So, apparently I've been thrust into being in charge of Locks of the Week, a thing we started just this week inspired by the great Mike Steely and WWLS, The Sports Animal in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Last week, Frost won both of his locks, going with The New England Patriots in the demolishment of San Diego last week and he went with the Sooners to cover the spread over Utah State. Coming in second was Zorgon, who went 1-1 on his locks, his NFL was the KC Cheifs against the spread vs Chicago which was a win, his loss though, was Akron against the spread against Indiana. And then there's me. I'm 0-2, with my NFL lock being Cincinnati to cover a measly 6 points vs a Cleveland team who got murdered just a few days before. My other was Utah State against the spread vs Oklahoma, which was really stupid if you think about it.

As for the present week's picks, I've got Baylor (-3.5) to cover the spread vs a terrible Buffalo Bulls team, and the Carolina Panthers (-4) to cover against Joey Harrington and the Falcons. Zorgon's college pick is Rice (+39) against the spread. His pro pick is the Browns (+3) vs. the Oakland Raiders. At now for the current leader Jason Frost. His college pick is for Oklahoma (-22.5) to cover against Tulsa, and his pro is Cincinnati (+3.5) against Seattle. I gauntee a 2-0 ladies and gentlemen, so write that down, I'm movin' on up.

Family Man?

Honestly, why should we care about this guy anymore? He was a running back years ago, and what he's done post career is just...sad. His actions have gone beyond the world of sports, and has really entered the "general news" section. We should track him no more sport-wise than we should track Maurice Clarett.

That aside, this dude has to be either an idiot or mentally ill. If he wants his stuff back, he's got more than enough money to buy it with. Don't come with your friends to just jack up the joint and get yourself in trouble. He probobly has a mental disease called "obsessia" or something. It probobly causes him to build up more and more hate for something until he just explodes and does something drastic.

If I was O.J. Simpson right now, I'd fly to Barbados and enjoy myself. He can simply do nothing else to replenish his image, and he's pretty much doomed to jail and hate.

Vishy vs. The Pilsbury Dough Boy

On the first board(boards are in random order) we saw Viswanathan Anand(Vishy) taking down yet another rival, The Pilsbury Dough Boy, Peter Svidler. In what looked like an even game, the Pilsbury Dough Boy opted for some odd BS and got crushed by the number 1 rated player in the world, from India, who dispite some poor play in a few of his games(especially his near loss in the game against The World Champion, Vladimir Kramnik), is now alone in the lead.

Mmmmmmmm, Gatorade.

Gatorade Boy vs. Moro

On board two we saw the youngest participent in the tournoment, Alexander Grischuk(Gatorade Boy), take down the always entertaining Alexaner Morozevich(Moro). Moro got a nice looking attack, as always, but Grischuk managed a nice counter and took the initiative. Moro's positon soon deterieriated after which Gatorade Boy quickly finished him off.

Byron Leftwich signs with Falcons, Tank Johnson signs with Cowboys

Heading off our two NFL signings of the day we have Tank Johnson signing with the Cowboys. The Cowboys have been known for willingly taking loose cannons (TO) in the name of winning. This move doesn't surprise me at all. Expect the Cowboys to improve a bit on defense, which really helps their Super Bowl cause. If I had to pick a team from the NFC right now, it'd be them.

The second signing is Byron Slowwich, to the Falcons. I was getting all excited when I heard on the radio that the Falcons signed somebody, because I expected it to be Drew Bledsoe. However, it was this loser. Kinda funny how far the Falcons have come, from such a fast QB to such a slow QB. Will the Falcons be that much better? Not really. Maybe 1-2 games. Good Job upgrading from Joey Horrible though.

(Although, Plummer, Bledsoe, or even Brooks would've been MUCH better, foos!)

Okay, so now to business.

NCAA Football Thoughts:

Notre Dame vs. Michigan

Notre Dame looked about as good as Utah State last week. And no, its NOT because of Jimmy Clausen. It's because of the HORRENDOUS offensive line. The dude gets no time to do anything! Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he's a superstar, but he's not completely terrible. He just sent the entire game in fear of the defensive line!

The offensive line might as well have been Jello. They spent the entire day on their rear end. EVERY SINGLE LINEMAN fell down by the time most plays were over. Just...ugh.

Akron vs. Indiana
It's fun to watch a few small time games like this. Akron seems like a team that starts out with a big jolt, but loses their stride somewhere in the game. You could also witness this from how they played vs. Ohio St. It kind of fits their name, the Zips. Zip! And then they're gone. Indiana, meanwhile, still looks like Indiana.

Nebraska vs. USC

I was pulling for a Nebraska upset, but it looked like it was too good to be true. Outside of the top 5, most of the nation this year looks like a joke, including Nebraska. Don't be surprised if by the end of the year you see a few Sam Hill States randomly creep into the polls. Oh, and don't even TALK about Texas and the rest of the Big 12. I haven't watched any Texas games, but if you struggle week after week against UCF, you're not a contender. I can pretty much confirm that all of the Big 12 but OU STINKS. Unless Missouri randomly becomes good. USC looks as strong as ever, but I don't think they're back to a Matt Leinart/Reggie Bush level just yet.

Tulsa vs. BYU

Tulsa has officially returned to prominence, ladies and gentlemen. Okay, you may say "Brigham Young and Louisiana-Monroe? Who cares? Well, for a team that always threatened to go 0-11, 2-0 is a big step. Defense looked average, but Paul Smith looked good. Okay, good for Tulsa. Don't be surprised if hes 2-22 with 3 Interceptions and 7 sacks against Oklahoma. Why? Explained in the next section.

On a side note, I have to give props to College Sports TV for covering this game so well. Very few commercials, and in depth analysis. If you don't have it, it's only 15 bucks a month on DirecTV, AND you get a bunch of other odd-and-end sports channels. Who could resist? (No, I don't work for DirecTV.)

Oklahoma vs. Utah State

OU is, simply, owning. No knock on Utah State, but this team looks...just monsterous. Don't be surprised (is that the phrase of the day?) when they tear through the incredibly weak Big 12.

However, OU really needs to either replace Garrett Heartley (Kicker) or the kickholder. 2 missed extra points is simply unacceptable. This will come back to bite them in the ass. Although, he did have a nice 52 or 53 yarder. So maybe not. Oh, and the annoucner was all "52 yards is CRAZY!!!!" No, it's not. I'm ALL FOR long Field Goal kicks. Just wanted to get that out there.

Colorado vs. Florida State

Everyone is talking about Notre Dame and Michigan's fall from prominence, but take a look at this one! If this happened in 2001, both would've been in the top 5. Now they're both in the muddled middle of their respective conferences.

Colorado's defense was solid, but their offense was just sad and pathetic. If it weren't for a couple of late-game drives, I would've called it Notre Dame-esque. The Coaches son was getting sacked on every play, so they had to use a shotgun every play. I do have to give props to the coach for that, though, as most aren't smart enough to do so. Near the end dudes were kind of catching balls, and the QB was kind of throwing well, so a flicker of hope may still remain for a Colorado Bowl Game.

Florida State just looked average and boring all around. Not great, not bad. Not good, not mediocre. Just average.

'BAMA vs. Arkansas

I didn't watch much of this game, don't have much to say. I do feel sorry for razorback fans, though. It would've been nice to see a strong Arkansas team.

Oregon State vs. Idaho State

Randomly tuned into this one for a few minutes. Oregon State lost last week to some bad school, but now they're beating up on Idaho State? Either Oregon State is having moodswings or Idaho State SUCKS. I'm going with the latter.

Texas vs. University of Central Florida

I watched very little, but I can tell you this much: Texas is baaad. If I had to make a major surprise pick, I'd go with Rice over Texas. If you want to roll the dice a bit.

All other games I didn't watch and have little to no opinion about. I do take special requests, if you're interested.

NFL Week 2:

Browns vs. Bengals

Gonna take it right into the DANGER ZONE!

This was like watching NFL Blitz. It was so awesome. Score after score. 2nd highest combined score in NFL history. If you have Tivo or something, go back and WATCH this game, all the way through. It's simply too fun not to.

The Browns looked much stronger after this game. They pretty much negated the rushing game of the Bengals, who pretty much got through solely on Carson Palmers arm. Every aspect of their offense looked good. So, does this mean playoffs? Don't get excited just yet, but they're definately going in the right direction.

Derek Anderson- Real Starter?

We'll see in 2 weeks....To be honest, with how well he did, I'm kinda scared Brady Quinn might be worse....

The Bengals defense was atrocious, all around. The Begnals run game was atrocious. If Palmer, Johnson, or TJ Whatever got injured mid-game, game over. The Bengals may still be a playoff team, but they really need to step back and take another look at themselves.

Houston Texans vs. Carolina Panthers

Awwww! Baby is all grown up! They're getting Touchdowns now!

I didn't watch the game, but Houston is a REAL NFL TEAM! I'M SO PROUD! Not to mention, they helped me a lot in Ballhype pickem and 17 games. Whatever the case, if Carolina wants to take it to the next level, they need to get rid of Delhomme, and find themselves some sort of above-average TE or RB.

Jagulars vs. Falcons

2 bad teams GOIN AT IT. Watch as they combine for a massive 20 points. Watch as Joey Harrington passes for 1 TD so the guy who drafted his QBs late gets some minisule fantasy points. Watch as Field Goals are kicked. Watch as noone cares. (Sorry, I don't want to knock you guys, but this may be the toilet bowl....)

Packers vs. Giants

I didn't watch this one either, but you can tell the Packers are ready to play. Brett Favre wants one more go. The Packers will the the surprise Dark Horse in this years playoffs, and might just pull a 2005 Steelers or 1999 Titans type run....The "Hefty Lefty" needs to play.

Buffalo vs. Pittsburgh

This game either signifies that Buffalo is bad or that Pittsburgh is really good. Its actually neither of those. Buffalo is decent (Denver game cough), but their main problem still lies in J.P. Lost Man. Get any better QB, and whole new doors are opened for that team. The Steelers are looking reeeeeally good right now, but we'll have to see how they stack up in later weeks before we count our chickens.

49ers vs. Rams

The 49ers win just because they had the ball at the right time. 2 very equal, very solid teams. They are both in a Division of Death, where one game could snap you to the 2nd round or send you to the gutter. May the luckiest team win. Joe Nedney=Underrated Kicker.

Saints vs. Buccanneers

The Saints are returning to their former glory while the Bucs are looking as mediocre as ever. Yippee!!!!

Colts vs. Titans

I don't want to judge this game just yet. It could mean many, many things. If I wanted to take a stab in the dark, I'd say that the Colts had an off game and that Vince Young is looking more and more like Steve McNair. I'd say that the Titans are the Warriors of the NFL, and the Colts are the Mavericks. It's true, at least for this year.

Cardinals vs. Seahawks

That's about all I have to say. Were the Seahawks ever really THAT good in the first place? I dunno.

Lions vs. Vikings

The FOX announcers for this game were stupid as...shite. The Play by Play guy was generic and obviously suited for other sports, while the colour guy used to be some dumb linebacker or something. They didn't really know how to call anything, and the colour guy wouldn't shut up. He ALWAYS had to get his points out. Ugh. The game? I don't remember. Go CBS and NBC!

Dolphins vs. Cowboys

The sad thing is..the Cowboys may just be NFC champs this year...sigh. I miss Drew Bledsoe.....

Ravens vs. Jets

Kyle Boller is probobly the best backup in the league next to Kurt Warner. A heck of a lot of experience, and he's decent to boot. He could start on a few teams....but he's better off in Baltimore, as Steve McNair is bound to get hurt. J!E!T!S! may once again stand for, "Just End The Season".

Bears vs. Chiefs

If the Bears are ever favoured by more than 10...bet on the opposition. Poor Chiefs.

Broncos vs. Raiders

Is the closeness of this game because of the Raiders being good? No. It's because of Jay Cutler. If the Broncos didn't have Jason Elam, they'd be 0-2. Best Kicker in the NFL, IMO. Longest ever!

Chargers vs. Patriots

Cheating aside, the Patriots are awesome. Simply stacked everywhere from Kick Retruners to WR. Their line backers maaay be a little weak, but that's IT. If they still had McGuinest and Milloy this would be a team for the ages.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the Chargers suck. Why? The man in that photo is why. Can someone say BreesisbetterthanRivers? Good. If Gates or Tomlinson gets injured, lookf for this team to go down an extreme toilet. Their Wideouts suck, and their defense is mediocre-to-average. Nuff' Said.

Oh, and their new uniforms are nice.

Eagles vs. Redskins

Despair.

Why are the Eagles so bad? I think that the lack of a rushing game has killed them. Plain and simple. You can predict them too easily.

As for the Redskins- Jason Campbell is better than I expected, but he needs a little refining. Campbell is a good Quarterback name, too. Better than Lost Man.

Odds and Ends-

WNBA

The Phoenix Mercury won the WNBA Championship. Over the Bill Laimbeer coached Detroit Shock. What's sad about this is how far the WNBA has fallen since it's inception and the early Houston Comets championships. Great TV contract re-signing with ABC, Mr. Stern....It has doomed the WNBA to a decade of steadily declining ratings. Do you really want it to fold this bad?

Golf

Tiger Woods won something. Again. Is anyone else tired of this?

NASCAR

Clint Bowyer won, significantly increasing his chances in the Chase. Will he win? HELL NO. Jeff Gordon tied for 1st baby!!!!
